Woman at work has a 2011 Audi TT Tfsi Quattro which has I believe an almost identical AWD system to the FL2.... front transfer box with Gen4 Haldex at the rear.

she has been complaining of the car not feeling right when she is low speed manoeuvring so I started quizzing her about the symptoms and basically it sounds like the front wheels are skipping when she is reversing off her level drive or driving into/out of parking spaces.

Luckily she is a petrol head so she understood some of what I was saying (although doesn't understand the mechanics of things fully)

She is now booked into Audi under warranty (Audi approved) on Monday for them to look as I suspect its an issue with either the PTU or the Haldex being stiff or locking causing the wheels to skip when turning. Similar to the symptoms of seized VCU on FL1.

My point is that if im right, it goes to show that not only LR have problems with their transmission systems

Audi are normally first class with warranty work so I doubt she will have a problem .On a moot point Audi are conning most of their buying public with the world Quattro . The modern Haldex cars have as much in common with the real full time All Wheel Drive Quattro systems as a FL2 has with a Defender .  2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Well it turned out the Haldex needed replacing, 2500 squid under warranty....

seems I have learnt something from this forum as my diagnosis was apparently correct

You are partly right.

EVE (evil Volkswagen empire) does use the Haldex for their transverse engine configurations: Audi TT, Audi A3, Golf, etc.

However the Audi A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 the center differential is a Torsen and its mechanical. (This was certainly true in 2008 when I bought my Land Rover, although it may be less true today for the newer models)

I am absolutely certain that my 2009 A4 Center differential is a Torsen




Note: the front and rear differential on my A4 are open just like my Freelander2


There are Pros and cons to both.


The big advantage to the Haldex in our Land Rover is that it locks the center differential from a dead stop. I really like this feature it make it easy to move forward on wet or snow covered roads. (Note: I may be technically wrong about the lockup it might not happen until the front tire slip a small amount but if that is the case it locks up so quickly that I don't care. This is one of the really nice feature of the Freelander II.)
