I read on this forum about strange things happening especially when the car is pushed towards its limits.

I do wonder if these 'features' (or their misfuntioning) explain some of the experiences suffered by various people.

I was recently surprised myself by what I think was the CRC Cornering Brake Control coming into action.
It happened on the large roundabout joining the M4 and M32, which has traffic lights followed by a 3 lane 270 degree roundabout onto the M32.
I momentarily forgot that I was in a high sided 4x4 and attempted to accelerate up to 70mph around the wide bend.
I was met by a peculiar floating feeling as the power decreased and the FL2 moved towards the outside of the lane, and then the FL2 tightened its line (as I responded lifting my foot) and all was normal.

I think this 'invisible' steering by mainly the individual back brakes may account for my rear brake pads wearing out faster than my fronts, and also my rear tyres wearing at a similar rate to my fronts. On all other cars (all non4x4) I have before brake and tyre wear at the front has been noticeably greater than the rear. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Understeer

Could be explained by understeer and on front wheel drive cars if you lift off it creates oversteer and gets you round the corner...
Also rear wheel pads generally wear a little quicker due to brake bias ? 2007 hse auto

Wasn't CBC what you experienced was Roll Stability Control (RSC) activating to prevent a potential roll over by reducing power and applying brake pressure to force a wider radius turn.

So many acronyms! I recall when on the Design & Engineering tour at Gaydon, on the test circuit, charging in to the top bend at 80 mph with pedal to the metal it was DSC ( Dynamic Stability Control) that took over the throttle until we straightened out. It was a D4 though.

Thanks, I think you are right, it was the anti-roll stability that I triggered.

It wasn't normal understeer, I have experienced both that and oversteer during my years of driving. This seemed to exaggerate then correct itself. I did not control it myself.

To tell you the truth, I think I would rather have total control myself, but I suppose the computer knows better, as it knows at once what to do.

For my part it took the long hard snowy winter of 1962/3 to learn how to keep going but avoid the objects around the roads.
Ford 100E rear drive live axle, assisted by quickly bought pair of knobbly tyres and 2 bags of sand (in the boot to keep traction). FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I was Up North at RAF Middleton St George, near Darlington.
I travelled down to Bristol most weekends, it was a winter to remember.

Bonus was that airfields are the ideal place to experiment with car control. (Especially for a beginner like I was) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

You're right IanMetro. Airfields are great places to learn skid control when icy. I spent many enjoyable moments in my Lotus-Cortina on a icy perimeter track. Didn't do it on an aircraft dispersal though, the owner of a Vulcan might have been p#ssed off if I had hit it. 11 GS Bali Blue

We once took a LR 110 Soft top for a snowy 'training' spin around RAF Henlow around the old control tower in which we were based.
Saturday night - great fun playing in the snow !!
Monday morning - not so much fun as the all the snow had melted and we had created a muddy field, station commander was not impressed Very Happy
