Having been in and out of GGS mode a lot recently with the snow and ice, I’ve found that the cornering performance in normal conditions (ie no snow or ice) on twisty roads is very much better in GGS mode than with it switched off. I don’t think it is just down to placebo effect or the difference in throttle response. Logic suggests that the more even front/rear split in GGS should give more balanced cornering, but is the vastly different handling normal? ...Or does it perhaps suggest there is something wrong with my FL2 that is giving poorer handling in normal mode? 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I would believe the seat of your pants if it feels better in GGS in icy snowy conditions that's the best one,I would check tyres etc but would guess your car is ok if you didn't think there was a problem before.

dropping out of 4wd is a fuel,wear and tear/tyre saving thing, so maybe yes it does go better in GGS but its often desirable to not be in 4x4, Your choice At work

I often use GGS when in multi-storey car parks as it stops tyre squeal on the ramps.

Thanks guys. Being new to the FL2, I have no way of knowing what to expect. On some bends, in normal mode I get a momentary feeling of understeer on hard cornering, just at that point where you are light on the power going into the bend. It’s only a fleeting sensation and responds to more power, but does give a moment of excitement that I could do without. New tyres made it better, but I still get that odd “ ! It’s out of control” sensation from time to time. It may be partly related to road surface as it is possibly worst on worn/uneven tarmac but I wondered if this was just a normal sensation, perhaps related to when the Haldex wakes up and does it’s magic?

However, with the GGS switched on, it is transformed and can be driven through the bends with much greater confidence.

I appreciate that in 4WD mode everything is being worn quicker and that fuel consumption is greater. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

You are absolutely correct about the difference . I have to recalibrate my expectations when swapping from our Subaru with full time synchronised all wheel drive to the FL2 . The full time all wheel drive experience is much more positive and secure . Having said that unless It’s necessary I keep the FL2 in standard road mode , the rear diff is problematic enough without giving it a bigger share of the work  2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

DSC is more sensitive in GGS than it is in normal mode so if the Freelander detects any understeer or oversteer when using GGS it reacts much faster than it would if it detects it in normal mode

Thanks. I note your comment on the other thread that the sensation that IanMetro describes as a “floating feeling” is explained by the Roll Stability Control kicking in. This could be the same sensation as I am experiencing, although floating sounds much more serene than my “Oh !” sensation!  2005 D3 2.7 Auto
