Does anyone know when they started putting the uprated diff bearing in? Also have there been diff failures on early Evoques? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I think it was on my11 or 12 cars. Austen Bell is making a living from repairing drive trains on FL2'S and Evoques to the exclusion of all other marque's. Speaks volumes Evil or Very Mad

This is the 1st car that I have bought 2nd hand (demonstrator from Listers). All my previous cars have been from new. Heaven forbid that this is an ex Experience Day car. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Rear diff replaced and Haldex serviced at 61K on my 09 HST

Became aware of rear end grumble noise a month ago.
Went visiting via a 190 miles M4 trip 2 weeks ago. Now the noise is defined.
Local service man checked all wheel bearings. It's the rear differential and it's getting louder.
Checked this thread, called Austen at Bell Engineering.
Arranged visit for Nov 28. Replaceent diff with larger front bearing fitted and Haldex fully serviced. New seals on all elements.
He did it all in 2 hours. Drove home, 70 miles each way. Now perfect again.
My nearest LR specialist wanted three / four times Austen's price because he is not a transmission specialist, just a fitter.
Thanks Austen.

I have an update with quite good news.
Terrain vehicles (recommended by Bell engineering) initially thought , like me, that the problem lay somewhere in the drive train. In fact the noise was from the power steering pump. They cleaned the pipes, changed the oil and replaced the resevoir and so far the noise has not returned.

Update. Took the car to Bell Engineering yesterday afternoon and Austen got it up on the ramp and took the rear diff off only to find there is nothing wrong with it. Serviced the Hadlex while it was off and I was on my way
He seemed to think it could be a rear wheel bearing making the noise, but when he initially heard the noise, he said he would have thought it was the rear diffbefore he got it off. He also mentioned that if it weren't a rear bearing it could be the front transfer box on its way out. He advised me to continue on for a few weeks to see if the noise gets louder
I guess I will wait and see what happens.
I would recommend Austen to anyone who may experience these issues and reading this thread for the first time
Thanks to all for the advice, and thanks Austen Thumbs Up

Update - Finally got the car looked at today (03/01/1Cool as everywhere was fully booked before Christmas. I took it to a garage in Reading called Rovertune, who only deal with Landrovers
I have been told that the power transfer unit next to the gearbox is making the whining noise and they have quoted me £1016.00 to replace it. It’s not a brand new unit and a guy they use is building it to be fitted tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning.
Has anyone heard of these before or has anyone had one done? Does the price sound ok?
Austen, if your about, have you heard of these making noises and being replaced?

If you have no errors, most likely transfer box spline has stripped not haldex www.bellengineering.co.uk

Need your help to decide if i have a diff issue.
a week ago i started to hear a wining noise a bit like electric car but not very strong, the noise is increasing up to 60 kmh and then it becomes a bit less noticeable.
Up to 60 kmh the noise is increasing but not related to load, from 60 kmh if i am remove my feet from the paddle it in getting less noticeable and when i give gas again it is coming back.
I have 80,000 km on the car and last year diff oil was changed by LR together with haldex and PTU

Maybe let it develop as its just one week to be sure of where noise emanates from. It does seem that noise gets to a point it has to be the diff or not. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

It is one week but over 1000km that i done in during it.
Strange thing is that it is started one day and during the 1000km there was no change in noise level.

As i read in bell engineering web site if components in the 4x4 system is not taken care of in time other components failure will follow.

Is there a known method how to distinguish between diff, wheel bearing and prop shaft bearing?

I can go to LR but my guess they will change diff and when this will not fix it they will continue to other parts while emptying my wallet.

Unfortunately bell engineering is 1300km from me although i am tempted to go Very Happy

It can be quite difficult for the inexperienced to differentiate between different types of bearing noise. You could try & find a repair shop that has & can use a set of 'chassis ears', they can pinpoint bad bearings with ease. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

LR garage found today the issue, faulty diff bearing.
It seems LR now have PN for the bearing and the garage can perform only diff bearing replacement without replacing the all diff.
The PN is for all models so i guess it is the new improved type.
He estimated 1000 euro and 2 to 3 days in the garage.

Hi Austen,
I know, but i still wait to their final offer (usualy i get 20% off "old car" discount) that include the work.
As i dont have the place to preform a diff replacment i need to
have a garage to perform the work and from my experience
Most garages have low motivation if you bring parts with you.

Still not sure how it will end, will give you a call if plans will change.

Anyway wife want to sell it after repair
To maintain this car a man need deep pockets.
Next car will be leasing and maybe F-pace
