we'll be visitng a dealer tomorrow and will probably opt for one of their 2 FL2 for sale.

surprisingly, one does NOT have Terrain Response. I assumed they all had this feature. Does anyone know more?

I wouldn't worry too much about the TR (you need to go on a LRE day to learn to really appreciate the difference it makes anyway), but that first car seems completely stripped out and much more importantly, doesn't even have aircon; the market for that one will be very limited.

Yes we are just going to look as it since it is also there, we are mainly going for the XS one, it is exactly the same as our previous one, colour, specs, etc, bar the alloys.  Pre-Production "000" Td4 FL2 in Santorini Black on Jet Black and Blue...

Agreed, the XS is the only one of those two I'd be looking at. It's an auto too, which suits the car better (I've owned 2 manuals and 1 auto).

Indeed, we are only looking for an auto, our previous is exactly the same, as mentioned, but was a manual

NOW, this is a 10 year old FL2, which means timing belt IIRC. Would you know how much this cost from an indy and what is covers besides the actual belts, please?

Sorry, can’t help you there; never had to get that done myself.

both belts, (timing and aux) water pump and crank pulley and new anti freeze earlier this year £380

If it hasn't had both belts, pulleys & water pump done, I would use that to haggle the price down.

Also all fluids, haldex filter etc. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. Statutory write off & on WOVR for hail damage but still road legal.

Yes. It says it is a 58 plate and 2009 model year, so just over a year before the launch of the 2WD variant. But it is strange that the blurb for the other one mentions off road ability where this one doesn’t. I think there were kits available for people who wished to convert from 4WD to 2WD and plenty of threads on other forums on how to do this. Not sure they ever answered why though! 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

I'd certainly think twice about buying one with no TR.
OK, some say a Freelander isn't a proper Land Rover (which coming from a D3 & D4, I'd disagree).
But an FL2 without TR, imo does make it less of a LR.
Also, it might be fine for you now, but when you come to sell, it might not be attractive to potential FL2 buyers. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

We had an S model and it does have terrain response , it's just that you can't change the settings like you can on a GS, XS etc. My son used an S extensively for a couple of years for his job driving on and off road around farms and found that it coped very well. In fact when he replaced it with the GS below he never bothered with the fancy settings and his view was that the car would sort itself out in most situations ....but not every time, once you are grounded it makes no difference at all.

I forgot to mention that the S has 16" wheels and we found that finding suitable off road tyres was a bit of a problem. One tyre retailer looked at the original tyres our our S model and said that it had Transit van tyres on it. Not surprising considering the Ford heritage. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
