I've read (and appreciate) that too much oil is bad for your engine.
However, the manual says "if the oil level is above half way between the dipstick markings then don't add oil, but if it is below the half way mark then add 1 pint"..
So I added a pint after noticing the oil was just below half way...
Now my oil level is about 1cm above the full line!
WTF?!
Surely this isn't going to be an issue?

If you have a DPF possibly. Why ? As extra fuel is added at the DPF burn off stage and some may/can end up in sump. Happy to be corrected on that if I have it wrong.

A slight amount otherwise is not perfect and just over should be OK but its a learning curve to add a little and check in future. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

every time I had mine dealer serviced it was always filled just above the full mark on the dipstick.

probably would not have done any harm, but I always drew some out of the dipstick hole to correct level.

Don't worry if the level is above max with, say, max. 1 cm, on a FL2 stopped engine. Worry if it's that way when the engine is running! But that will not be the case for you.

Too much oil means that the crankshaft and/or balance shafts can hit the oil in the bottom of the crankcase when the engine is running.
Since the crankshaft is spinning fast, each time it hits the surface of the oil, it will create some air bubbles in the oil.
It will not be long and the oil will become some kind of foam, just like a whipping egg foam.
So the oil pump will pump less oil - meaning less oil pressure - because the "oil foam" will contain compressible air, instead of only incompressible liquid.

So a gross excess of engine oil can kill your engine by the exact same cause as not having enough engine oil.

As on an oil change the FL2 engine takes 5.9 liters, the garages put 6 liters round and therefore that apparent overfilling. But that will not hurt at all the engine.
