I was thinking more of the message that you often see on this forum "time to move it on before something else goes wrong" or similar. I agree about ex PCP cars but they would tend to be 3 or 4 years old but we are talking about older cars for around £10k or less on this particular thread. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Remember when you buy a second hand car you are buying someone else's problems.

I am not so sure that is the case anymore due to the move to Personal Contract Hire. Care are turned over and in as the contract comes to an end. Happy to discuss.

My last FL2 was on PCH, after 3 years it went on a forecourt and sold within a couple of weeks - was glad the contract ended - 2 haldex units fitted, rear diff issues for starters, guy who serviced it just before it went back reckoned the turbo was on the way out - yep someone was definitely buying my problems.....

Oh any mileage isn't really a major worry - my FL2 had all of these issues and was under 40,000 miles in 3 years!

Shame it gets to that situation as most as we know are fine. I do wonder if poor after care exasperates problems further. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I would guess that the indies are better at the job than the dealers! My experience left a lot to be desired in my 6 years of FL2 ownership. I remember my first FL2 had a knocking noise going over bumps, dealer had it 3 or 4 times before telling me that they couldn't fix it and go somewhere else. The next dealer had it a couple of times before it eventually got fixed but blotted their copybook when they damaged the bonnet during a different warranty repair and denied doing it. With my second FL2 they had marked out my own private parking bay in the service yard as I was there that often.....

My X3 is a completely different story, on my second one now and in 4 years never had any mechanical issues, only warranty repair was for the electric boot which occasionally would be slow to lift - no questions asked they changed both struts and it was fine. (was expecting them to say it worked fine every time they tried it so wouldn't repair).

No doubt there are X3's out there that are lemons and racking up big repair bills - every manufacturer has bad cars, it just seems that LR have more than their fair share of them..... Whistle Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black
