When I bought the car last year I fitted a "cheap as chips" set of mud flaps already I'ved had to replace the rear ones and never been of the road, so don't buy cheap pay a bit extra for the genuine item |

generally I would tend to agree with this line of thought, however, and friend down the road bought a set of flaps from fleabay and asked if I could fit them,i was a bit concerned as to how snug they would fit, well no worries there, they fitted like the proverbial, even where the rear lower skirt fits the bumper.they have stayed on and in place for just over a year, with only a little going off road. gone

I had no problem with the fit but the material they were made of was brittle and broke at the screw and bolt holes |

Can someone advise if you need to do any drilling for the genuine product? |

You have to remove the plastic sill finisher and drill 2 8mm holes in each one and trim a bit off the finisher with a stanley knife underneath. No actual drilling into any metalwork needed. The Powerful UK ones sold on Ebay come with the metal brackets but no idea if the plastic is as durable as the genuine mudflaps. |

The only down side to the LR ones is that they come with black screws that had rusted through within 2 years. Why an item that is in one of the most aggressive positions on the car could not have been stainless steel beats me, especially seeing the price that LR charges for the kit Remember there are never problems, just new challenges |

Agree with that . I used A2 stainless to replace everything when I installed them 6 years ago . Mild steel saves a pence or two and causes problems in a few years . That's value engineering gone daft . On my Scooby all the mud flaps are secured with plastic pop fasteners and can be removed in seconds if need be . That's Clever engineering. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

I replaced the standard screws & washers with 316 stainless, but I replace all screws around my property with 316 as it everything rusts by the sea, even 304 is not ideal in my location. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

So, on the topic of mudflaps, how effective are they at keeping c!!p of the side of the car? Especially the front ones - the rear I can see what they would save, but at the front, a lot of dirt seems to spool out the top of the wheel arch. We have a Loire blue and I did tell my wife she'd see every spec of dirt, but she seems to like it that way. We have an UP in Titanium silver and it's filthy, but you can't see it. One week in the Loire and it looks like we've been to Eastnor for the day.
