consumer rights

I stepped up from a fl1 to fl2 a year ago & what a difference Shocked however I soon had regret's. I stupidly bought an 08 for £4'600 with 170k on the clock (it was what I could afford & most other 08 were between 8 & 9k). the car had a full service history with detailed replacement part's etc so I took the risk. since then it's been back to the dealership 8 time's (the last being 4wks ago) & all under the same 3mth warranty. it started with a noisy alternator bearing. within a few wks or month's it needed another replacement & then another & another. Sick of it & it's ruined 2 pre-booked caravan holidays because we couldn't risk it breaking down. I personally think it's a wiring problem. When I renewed the mot they told me there was a leakage from the transfer box, but the dealership said it wasn't there when I bought the car. Now it's off the road because it keep's stuttering (engine) when I drive it. could the fuel filter. Anyway, I don't know what my legal options are so any advice would be helpful. I know the phrase now, you get what you pay for, but that's no help to me now Big Cry

"Don't know what my legal options are"

Hate to be negative but an 8/9 year old car with 170k on the clock not a lot of hope. Sad MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

As Tenet said, hate to be negative but . . .

From what you say it seems like all the faults occurring during the 3 month warranty have been fixed so that is probably the end of the dealers liability. An 8/9 year old car with 170k on the clock is clearly not "as new" and is bound to develop some faults and need repairs from time to time. Basically there is a very good chance that that comes with any car of that age. There is always a risk with older high mileage cars and as you said, you took the risk. Regretably, it's time to cut your losses and move on.

you bought a '08 car with 170k for thereabouts half the price of the other '08 cars

Surely that should have told you something Rolling Eyes and now you want to take the legal stance on a second hand car

good luck with that Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

With a car like that you'll get a 30 day warranty under the sale of goods act. This might help. https://www.theaa.com/car-buying/legal-rights MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE
