Jaguar TPMS Tyre Change

Looking for a bit of advice. My dad has driven Jaguar XJs for many years and his current one, which is the most recent model, has tyre pressure monitoring.

For many years he got everything done, including insurance, through Jaguar dealers and God knows how much he overpaid.

I eventually showed him the way of insurance comparison so he now makes massive savings.

However, he still gets his tyres from the dealer. He was horrified when I said how much my tyres for the FL2 cost but he said he can't get tyres fitted elsewhere as Jaguar dealers have the right kit for his TPMS system.

Now I don't know if the XJ shares any parts with any LR but I had always thought TPMS was managed via the ABS system so shouldn't need anything other than maybe reset when the tyres are changed.

Is this the case and can he get it done elsewhere?

Cheers. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

JLR don't use the ABS for TPMS, they use a far more sophisticated system which uses a valve sensor which is common to all JLR vehicles, obviously there is different part numbers but basically all the same in operation.
No reset is required the system does it automatically. MY15

Ah right. So in theory no reason why a normal garage that say Black Circles use could not fit new tyres?

Thanks. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

On the same subject, my 19" Triple Sport rims have TPMS valves but my model does not have TPMS fitted. When it comes to tyre change do I keep the original valves or fit standard valves?

Any tyre fitter can fit tyres to rims with the tpms valve/sensor. They just need to be careful breaking the bead not in the vicinity of the valve as they may damage the sensor/valve. MY15

Yes, you can fit tyres/rims with TPMS valve/sensors, they just act as a normal valve. MY15

I had worries about TPMS, but had a new TPMS valve fitted to a wheel and the TPMS system just accepted it.

My local tyre garage did the job, no worries.

Hi
Yes, the wheels have TPMS valves. At least, that is what I believe they are - bolt through valves bolted to the rim as aircraft tyre valves are.. I didn't fit them. Not a problem.
