I seem to think, possibly wrongly, that in AUS you are not allowed to have forward facing lamps above the 'glass line' of the vehicle ?

Well, I am not sure about the law side of it. I attach the light on the roof only when I get off the road, but I see many 4WD cars with LEDs or even round spot lights on their roof.

I did a quick google search and it appears that every state has different rules about these LED bars. Some states allow to have them mounted anywhere as long as they are in the centre of the vehicle, and some states don't allow to have them mounted higher than the bonnet.

Great pictures & it is nice to see a Freelander with proper 17 inch tyres instead of the lower profile rubbish, we are all jealous!

Driving light rules in Australia are a dogs breakfast at best, every state has different rules, & then it is not clear by any stretch of the imagination.

The latest bit of information printed shows a few narrow protocol, but has no reference to placement other than 'face to the front of the vehicle', work that one out! I can't ever recall that I ever needed driving lights out the back! I have spent countless hours looking for information on this issue & NSW is the worst of all states with clarity on this issue.

In my area there are serious 4WDs with lights on the roof, above the bonnet clearly blocking the view of the road & right next to the number plate, & more than 4. Plus a guillotine profiled bullbar with winch out the front!

Having a removable light bar, I believe would show you have gone to far more effort than the regulators extreme lack of clarity on this issue!

Probably it's worthwhile having a consistent history of photos of the car with the lightbar removed to cover your bum! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
