The potential for yet another milder than average winter isn't enough to put me off winter tyres. Any conditions at +7C and below and they are better than summer tyres but in the wet I think they are better even when temps are a bit above that. Major difference in snow obviously.

Had them on the Golf and they are excellent but they would not fit the A3 as they were smaller wheels on the Golf. The reason I went for them on the Golf (besides their obvious benefits) was that the tyres it came with were budget tyres and didn’t have an enormous amount of tread left. With the A3, I’ve got some Dunlop sport tyres with acres of tread left and they get good reviews. Plus the Avon’s massively undercut the Michelin price yet retain quality performance. I put winter tyres on my HSE for the last two winters, but didn't really need them.I now have a 2014 Tiguan, but will not invest in a winter set.Now that I have retired from work,I don't think that bad weather will be a problem. If the weather turns bad,I'll stop at home. |

I'll only be fitting Winter Tyres if the Daily Express predicts snow for this winter.

New set of Wintracs going on on Thursday, courtesy of forum sponsor AJS. My standard Pirellis were good on ice last winter, even on very steep ice slopes, but they were nearly new then, and I think a lot of the good performance was down to the electronics on the DS. I'll feel much more secure with a decent set of winter tyres. They're going on a reasonably priced set of second hand Ewok wheels - the annoying part is having to source a set of TPMS valves. Gone winter modification mad today Just ordered the Avon winter tyres at just £45.53 per tyre with Black Circles which beats other sites easily. £193.62 total with delivery and I'll get the mobile tyre fitter I've used over the years to come and fit and balance them for £40 all in

I run these all year round, as it goes in fields as well. In fact on Sunday it pulled me out of really gloopy mud. As for snow, in Kent we don't seem to get much now days.
