In Land Rovers hand book for the Freelander 1 and Discovery 2 it recommends white spirit and then to be rinsed of well with water. 👍

+ for petrol, but don't do over Tarmac.

Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.

I feel for anyone with a white car, its a never ending job.

The only way to truly get every micro spot of tar off is a clay bar. Every tar remover or internet tip I've tried has failed in the final anslysis . . All except the clay bar . Autoglym for me, or WD forty or brake cleaner but I avoid as it is a bit strong! AG works on 95% of marks anyway Pre-Production "000" Td4 FL2 in Santorini Black on Jet Black and Blue...

AutoSmart Tardis does the trick for me, best i have used by far Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just remember that the solvent based solutions mentioned above (inc. the Autoglym) will also totally remove all traces of wax and polish, so once done those will need to be re-applied, assuming you’re the polishing sort of course.
I bought my car in September and spent time doing ab initial thorough clean.
There was so much tar along the sills, door and wing bottoms that in places it looked like it had been applied by brush.
Clearly the previous keeper wasn’t concerned by tar.
The plastic outer sills were so bad I had to remove them and use a decorators scraper to get the worst off and finish with white spirit. They were so bad I thought I’d have to buy new ones.
After a lot of effort though they came up good as new so worth it in the end. Derek Hill
