Exciting days now. The rebuilt diff will be going in this evening. I removed the old Evoque diff yesterday. It felt pretty smooth when rotating the input shaft, but there was some very tiny "knurling" felt when rotated. I hope my diagnosis is not wrong..... Anyway, it will be nice to see how the rebuilt one behaves and how long it will last....

Rebuilt diff fitted and test drived. No change in noise/vibration from earlier. This confirms only 3 things:

- The Evoque diff which I removed was healthy
- The rebuilt diff is cured and OK
- The cause of the noise/vibrations lies somewhere else

Feels like giving a sh!t about this now and just see how things develop over time

The good thing is that I have performed a fluid change to all the driveline units during this process.

Case solved. A faulty front and rear wheel bearing was causing the noise

I got a report from the owner of that car, and the diff fitted is silent

Anyway I have removed the diff from the car and stripped the diff to confirm pinion bearing, the rotation is lumpy not sure if it is just the nose bearing or both!

Obviously there was metallic debris in the diff, but the crown wheel and pinion are in good condition, as is the differential itself and the bearings and races.

Will give all the parts a thorough clean

Just hoping an Indy recommended to me will strip and fit the new bearing/s and rebuild (got a kit coming from Duckworths)

Pinion bearing on ours just starting to go at 76K miles on 2010 auto. Bells are going to sort it out next week. Unfortunately don't really have the facilities at home to tackle this myself.

I got contacted by a friend recently who complained about some rear end noise in his FL2. We did a test drive and could clearly hear a whine from the rear. We could definitely hear and feel "knurling" from the rear diff after jacking up the car and rotating the rear wheels. No need to say that this diff is knackered. I am just surprised how quickly that noise have developed over a short time The RH rear wheel bearing seems also to have had better days.

So now I am rebuilding 2x rear diffs`s these days which I have had laying around. One of them is the later Evoque diff which I have had in my car earlier, and I can confirm that this one has a larger nose bearing fitted. This casing has a deeper bearing face to accept the larger pinion bearing (SKF 32206J2) and a shorter collapsible spacer fitted between the bearings.
We will fit new wheel bearings together with one of the rebuilt diffs to this car when the diff is ready.
