Heated Windscreen - what type - wire or something else

Getting an HSE Lux next week and too impatient to wait and find the answer to this !

Is the heated screen the Ford type with micro-wires visible in the screen, or some other form (and if another, how does that work).

We didn't see any wires on the test drive but noticed, and never liked them, in my Mondeo 15 years ago, although it was hugely effective. So just curious if the wires are smaller or if they use a conductive film now instead. Also, how effective at both ice and mist. Kind of a bonus feature we were not looking for, but if its invisible and works, we will probably be converted.

Thanks,

They are thin wires, actually not easy to spot unless the light hits them in a certain direction most of the time they are not apparent.

I find then very effective against misting, last winter I only had a few days when the screen was iced up and they worked in a few minutes.

Its fitted on mine, and it thin wires which is visible. I find them annoying sometimes and only 50% of mine is working now. I think I would put in a windscreen without if I have to replace it some day.

If it`s an HSE LUX then it will have definitely have one as it has almost every option available as standard. As previously mentioned it has very fine wires that are noticeable only really if you are looking directly at the screen and not through it. It`s a must have item in my book especially in the winter Thumbs Up

I agree it is a must have.
Coupled with the (standard?) 'magic' demist button, which turns on air conditioning, blowers and heated front and rear screens, the car windows are cleared of mist within seconds.
As the Freelander is based on a Ford (Mondeo?) chassis I suspect it is a Ford item.

Apart from full size spare it was the only must have (winter Pack) when we specified our GS build, not forgetting a decent paint colour as well. Thumbs Up FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

And that is called insurance fraud, just in case anyone isn't aware (not making a value judgement, just stating a fact) Wink

Just tailgate more often, it will get broken eventually. (Just kidding - I hate tailgaters)

Thanks all - it's a late model Lux, so I think it has the winter pack as std. In fact there is virtually nothing that was available as an option it does not have as standard.

Maybe my presbyopia I didn't have 15 years ago is helping as I didn't se anything on the test drive. Or maybe they've improved it and made the wires thinner. (Before anyone says, I have 6/3 vision - fighter pilot level, with my contact lenses that is, and no longer closer than arms length sadly - I am normally a picky observant type, so I will go and trash myself with wet birch branches for not spotting the wires)

Will soon find out!

I only went from black to black to lessen the visual impact..... both looked great (when they were dirty as it hid all the swirl marks Laughing )
