Bulb Question... FL2 Xenon

Pardon my ignorance.
I have a HSE FL2 - with Xenons - which are looking at little orange - probably 10 years old.

What Bulbs are MAIN and DIPPED beam should I go for?

I'm not with my car - but are both bulbs Xenons? (It's a 2007)

I'd like a whiter light.

thx

Max

My 2007 GS has H7 halogen (xenon is a member of the halogen gas group) lamps in both main and dip beam. It should be marked on the headlamp unit what is required. As for a whiter light, you'll have to remember that incandescent lamps will never be as white as LED's or HID's. You'll need to get hold of something like Osram Nightbreaker unlimited or Phillips Racing vision that offer upwards of 100% more brightness. Don't be temped to adapt the current headlamp units to HID. You'll just end up annoying other drivers with badly focussed beam patterns!

Xenon

I deffo have Xenon.
Just wanted to know what bulbs to buy - mine are old and have gone a bit yellow.

Never bought them before.

Are the bulbs different from Main/Full and dipped beams ?

I think they are D1S xenon bulbs (low and high beam) combined with H11 halogen bulbs (only high beam). Standard xenon bulbs have a Kelvin temperature rating of about 4300K, bulbs with a rating of about 4800K are "whiter". 6000K bulbs will be "bluer". I read that 4300-4800K are the best for visibility, the higher temps like 6000K don't give great illumination.

Bi-Xenon units use a Xenon bulb for both high beam and low beam, a halogen bulb is used for high beam fill-in.

Bulbs

Thanks....

So... actually its the 'fill in' bulb (never heard of that before) thats gone yellow.

Should I go LED or A top quality 'white' halogen?

Thx

Fill-in is the term Land Rover uses in Topix, not invented by me.

Light from a standard halogen bulds is yellowish compared to the xenon bulbs. Top quality halogen bulbs (like Osram Nightbreakers or Phillips Xtreme Vision) claim to give brighter and whiter light.

You can find some topics in this forum about LED bulbs but they are not really positive, people that tried them switched back to halogen bulbs. See here for instance: http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic29890.html

Simples - You take out the bulb in question and go to your nearest trusted motor factors. They offer you a bulb or even a choice of bulbs, you buy what you want, take it home and fit. Job done. Wink FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

D1S bulb for xenon. Original bulbs costs at the dealer ~ 250 euros / unit (4300 K)

cheaper Bulbs are available in the market ~ 35 euros / unit. they fit but far for quality of original ones.

Now I'm confused, on the glass H7 is visible but the handbook mentions H11.

Best do what Yorky Bob writes, take a bulb out and buy a similar one...
