I am about to arrange fitment of a set of new tyres , Avon actually.

The Freelander is a heavy vehicle , should I order the heavier loading 108, or is the 104 o.k.?

My tyres are 235/65/17inch :

According to Listers my two nearside tyres have become mishapen, and the fns has worn more than the others , can the weight of the vehicle produce this affect , particularly due to cornering, e.g. islands?

Any thoughts will be appreciated

The plate on the doorframe gives the tyre sizes and ratings so 104 is OK. The weight of the vehicle alone will not affect the shape of the tyre assuming that tyre pressure is correct . 104 is 900kg max loading ( 1800 kg per axle ) 108 is 1000kg often called Xl - extra load for pickup trucks etc . If your near side tyres are junked, I'd be looking a suspension, steering 4 wheel alignment , tyre pressures etc . Did you fit the last set of tyres ? More important get to a good company with the most modern computer 4x4 wheel alignment kit (you can see the settings from the reception come up). Easy enough to check correct tyre types and loading's on tyre supplier web sites. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

The current tyres are Goodyear Wrangler and were fitted to the vehicle when purchased from listers Droitwich.
I purchased in August 2016, my Freelander is a 2012 and has 54,000 miles on the clock.

To date I have had the pump to The Haldex replaced, and currently the rear differential is to be replaced when Listers obtain a warranty claim authorisation from JLR.
The tyre pressures have been mainitained as they should be, but I take on board the commentabout the tracking

According to the mechanics the two nearside tyres are mishapen,would 'some' new Wranglers mixed with the two off side tyres and spare cause an imbalance?

Every 10K move front to rear (same side) and all 4 need to be the same profile/make. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

esydrive, quite close to you, nearish Hartlebury common fyi, but as for tyres I would recommend two things. a) buy a complete set and b) have a full alignment done at these people http://www.alineyourcar.co.uk/ . It's a bit of a trek to Dudley but really well worth while. I'm about to order a new set of Nokian Weatherproof albeit 235/60/18" 107XL and Aline will fit them and do the alignment just like last time. Compared to the alignment previously done by a Sandy Lane outfit the car was transformed. The last set of Weatherproofs have lasted about 30k.

Fronts axle will always wear quicker as it has to steer and drive.
Don't put front on rear, especially Wranglers as they will end up being noisy. Do a search on "Wrangler" and you'll see why.
Personally I will be leaving all my tyres on the axles they started with and when the front are worn will introduce the spare and 1 new onto the front axle.
In years gone by this would be incorrect, but with the age of Vehicle stability electronics, the theory of placing the new tyres on the rear no longer applies.
As a general rule it is illegal to put a tyre on the car with a lower "load rating" than is stated on the homologation placard. Load a tyre can carry is rated at max speed and recommended pressure, so run your pressures at recommended at all times. So if your worried about your load then don't go the maximum speed that the tyre is rated at and you can go even heavier than what is stated on the tyre. MY15

Thanks for the details of Aline, who i will visit when my rear differential repair has been carried out by Listers.The site looks good, are they competitive on tyre pricing , as they could carry out the complete replacement and tracking.

I was surprised to see that in your opinion that there is no longer any need for any new tyres to be fitted to the rear axle, and that they can be positioned on the front axle without any detrimental effect.
If this is so it is much easier for me to just replace the front tyres on my Freelander2

Replacing rears first was in the age before stability electronics as the general punters ability to get out of an "oversteer" situation was considered more dangerous than "understeer"
With stability electronics this consideration is now mute as the car takes care of this situation now.
Saying this though, if your tyres are bald then no amount of stability electronics/programs are going to get you out of an accident. MY15

esydrive, re Aline tyre pricing, pass, they aren't able to give me a quote on the Nokians, but last time were very happy to fit tyres sourced from internet, fitting price was very reasonable.
