The real question is, what is the environmental cost of producing a new car, the major pollution hit, and running it, compared with the pollution that is going to be attributed to running your current car, not including the pollution from production as that has already happened? We are talking about future pollution, there's not a lot we can do about the past now, its already happened! |

hi all, I dont understand why they cant just add extra to the cost of diesel, I appreciate that no one want to pay extra but why should a low mileage driver pay the same road tax as a high mileage driver.

but then you get people who do fairly high milages because of were they live, as opposed to road warriors who will drive 150miles to sell £30 worth of widgets as long as it means beating sales target for the month.

Well, since 81% (figure that I've seen posted somewhere) of the price of either fuel (diesel & petrol) is tax, high mileage drivers already pay more. Please don't encourage the Bureaucrats to put even more tax on. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Yeah! In my lifetime it's been Road tax, Road Fund Licence and Vehicle Excise Duty. Subtle redirection of the perception of where the money goes. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

They might as well put VED or whatever they call it now on to fuel. Since they got rid of the tax disk they've lost a load of revenue from that source and it is a way of making sure that everyone pays. The only thing that traditional annual VED, Road Fund, or Road tax has going for it is that it is the only time that all the documents have to be available at the same time unless you come to the attention of that rare beast, a copper. |

Problem is you can already get massive discounts off list on those cars. Be it a discount on a purchase, or the manufacturers contribution to a lease or PCP. The deals also have an age profile attached so the real cost to the manufacturer/ dealer will only be the couple of hundred quid they lose send some old clunker to the auctions . Just like any motor transaction the only thing that matters to the buyer is the cost to change from current to new, and I'll bet all they are offering is what was there already if you were competent to negotiate it . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Agreed Martyn and sad thing some will chip in a older car that will soon be(or is) collectable, the accepting dealer under these terms will just crush it FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I suspect that one reason for the VED is to keep a few more people in Swansea employed. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
