After 30k miles I am changing the tyres. I have noticed that on both rear tyres the tread in down to the minimum on the outside edge, but there is still 3mm of 'useable' tread in the inside edge !

Any clues as to why the tyres have worn like this ?

I would say that the camber needs to be checked on both wheels. ______________________

At 30k I think you've done quite well compared with some.

If the wear is similar on both sides then that's good, but if there is a noticalbe difference between inner and outer edge of each tyre that maybe something needs adjusting.

You might also seek opinion from whoever provides your new tyres.

I'm starting to think about changing mine, I'm at 48k miles, with remakably even wear both front to back, side to side and across each tyre, which indicates that even wear is possible. Oh and I haven't swapped their positions at all.

The wear is similar on both sides 1.5mm on the outside edge and 4.5mm on the inside edge. These tyres have been on since new. I will take these tyres into the garage and ask them to make the appropriate adjustments. Interesting that nothing was picked up on on the first service |

Could be pressures but there are usually two types of wear associated with incorrect pressures.

Over inflation leads to more wear in the centre less from the shoulders; under inflation leads to the reverse, more wear on the shoulders less in the centre.

Maybe a lot of heavy loads in the boot or towing?

got some rear end grip for Kielder now  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I check the tyres regularly, alternate refills. No excessive loads, no towing.

It looks like positive camber, the dealer can check this out now. I will take the old tyres in for them to look at. GS TD4 All Black

would it not be best to take the car to the dealer with the tyres still fitted

I like your thinking on this, I will give this a try because of the variance in tread wear.
