Haynes manuals

Haynes manuals ain't what they used to be.

Just bought a latest Haynes for the FL2 (inc 64 plate) - hard back cover is gone.

Also the detailed exploded diagrams at the beginning of each chapter (which was often where you would start reading) have gone. Now just a short description and a lot of B&W pics instead ; some quite poorly contrasted and fuzzy and some clearly generic.

Considering it supposedly covered the 64 reg models it doesnt mention the SD4 or electric parking brake.

Frankly I was disappointed. There are CDROMs on ebay - they also dont tend to cover the latest models but the diagrams are much better and have coloured highlights.

England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

I have one and yes it would be much improved if it was a hardback, with decent quality paper and colour photographs
I still find it useful though and sometimes photocopy the pages I'll need before starting a job so it doesn't get torn to shreds.

I have not found anything missing out of the copy for my 2008 freelander

It is shocking how poor they have become. Most products improve over time but these have gone backwards.

I have a FL1 and a FL2 and the FL2 Haynes Manual is not only softback but it is half the thickness of the FL1 Manual !

As you say, the photos are still black and white ! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

Have you tried TOPIx? I haven't done this myself but once registered you can apparently buy a one-day subscription then download the full workshop manual (and any service item updates if you have the time/will to live). Needs a bit of effort but won't cost you more than the Haines manual and you'll get the real thing. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Just sorting stuff out in the loft and came across this. Apart from no reference to the Haldex unit it's more informative than the Haynes FL2 manual (and it's a hardback)

The cover of that book looks like the engine bay of an MG B - that takes me back a few years

Not a early MGB as they had 2 small batteries under the small back seat I seem to remember. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

Yes you are correct they had two six volt batteries and as you say positioned under the back seat

Looking at the front grill makes me think that it's more like a Riley 1.5 or Wolseley 15/60 below

Definitely not an MG B as it has a single carb and the heater is not right.
I think Dorsetfreelander is correct it is one of the badge engineered Farina style Oxfords or Cambridges
