Stale air con smell

Hello all . I might have a supersensitive nose, but just had car service and air con service / regassed, but can still a sort of staleish air from the vents.
I'm going to use a Comma air con treatment can and see if that gets rid of it. It worked for a bit on other cars I've had.

My wife thinks I'm being fussy, but shes not in it every day ! The staleness seems to be less when ambient temperature is lower and the heaters are on a bit.- I always have it on Auto
Is it just me ?

I never use air con but would think one of those can treatments would work.

Hi, might be worth checking that your drain pipe from the cooling coils drip tray is not blocked. Fairly common I believe.

This can lead to problems as eventually the tray overflows and can lead to damp carpets in the foot well. Might be worth checking.

Check to see if you get water running out from the centre of the car just behind the front wheels. Leave the engine running with the AC on, or just check after driving for a bit, and you should start to see water dripping out under the car.

It's also recommended to turn AC off for a few minutes before the end of a journey to let the cooling coils dry off before you park up.

and...check the pollen filter has been changed [even if the service says it has], they can smell if damp or old.

. Loads of condensate under the car regularly, so not that.

I provided the pollen filter, since I had one, that I hadn't got round to putting in months ago....when the smell first started to annoy me!

Never heard of this.

Previous cars had for 18 years each, I used the AC all the time. The last car I only ever turned the AC off when taking off at the lights as it was such a large anchor. But it was back of 10 seconds later & on till the engine was turned off.

The rare occasion the AC has been accidentally turned off, there is a bit of a smell, but this is similar to home AC I have had over the decades. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I do this, but that's when it smells usually. Plus it blows all the moisture it's been removing back into the car and steams up the windscreen.

Me and the wife must have sensitive noses too because we find both our cars as bad, and we have no blockages. I tried a cheap aircon bomb on both, no joy. I then tried comma, no joy. I then tried Holts and it worked, although it left a long lingering scent in the Freelander.

This week I'm going to change the pollen filters for Activated Carbon ones and I've bought a £2 Dettol antibacterial compressed spray (neutral smell) from the Supermarket which I intend to spray up into the system while running with the pollen filter removed. I think aircon bombs are just the same stuff but in an overpriced 'single-press' can!

I'll try the Comma one first , since I've already bought it. Also don't fancy paying £512 for an aircon cleaner !

Not that I've tried it - the best way to keep the aircon healthy IME is just to leave it on auto.

Services like this are available nationwide, generally for under £20

The Air Conditioning Clean service removes all the harmful bacteria that can build up within the air conditioning system. By circulating a special cleaner through all air intakes and venting systems this service removes any unpleasant smells, leaving your car interior smelling clean and fresh. We recommend that this service is carried out once a year in order to keep your air conditioning system as clean as possible.

Don't see why not, if they want repeat custom and they have a good reputation

First time I've used an Indy for this car

Haha. Laughing That was £11 for two cans yesterday. Must have sold out and sellers just increase the price of the listing rather than remove it!
