Evening Guys,

We got our FL2 3 years ago and until last week it's not put a foot wrong.

The steering pump started sounding wheezy last week so I checked the fluid and sure enough it was low. I got a litre of fluid from LR and topped it up and it last for about a week.

Tonight I've dropped the under tray and can see wetness around the union between the pipes and the steering rack. I'm waiting for it to cool down a bit before I try and get a nip on the bolt that holds them on but I fear it's probably tight.

I've read on the net that the racks are prone to leaking, is it from the unions that they tend to go?

Some of the earlier FL2s had steering rack problems due to c p being left in the rack after manufacture. The other usual one is the filter built into the reservoir gets bunged up and the pump has to work extra hard. Does the steering feel normal ? Is there any steering noise? Could be extra pressure from a bunged up reservoir blowing seals elsewhere? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

No funny noises other then when the fluid runs low, topping it up instantly cures it. Steering feels fine too, no heavier then usual.

Pipes in the power steering can corrode and cause leaks, giving exactly the symptoms you describe. I've just had a section of pipe replaced, plus the reservoir and a good flush of the system. Total cost was under £250 with a local independent doing the work.

Having had a proper look at it, it is one of the metal pipes coming down from the top into the rack that's corroded.

Will price a pipe tomorrow and see if I'm doing it myself or not

Did you manage to fix your PAS leak successfully?
f so, were the parts easily available?
The high pressure pipe into the rack on my 07 failed yesterday due to corrosion and dumped all the fluid in minutes. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Apologies for never replying to this.

In the end, the car was due a service and MOT so I took the easy route and got Team Valley to replace both PAS pipes down to the rack whilst the car was serviced.
