Any washing machine engineer will tell you why it hasn't been used before, badly loaded washing causes the drum to move to such an extent that the drum can often be heard banging against the side of the machine. If you have plastic containers filled with water there is a high probability that they will fracture and spill the contents. That's one flooded kitchen plus a high fire risk due to all the electrics, also for what it's worth, it's not just the so called cheaper brands that use concrete for stabilizing the drum

And a lump of concrete is probably a lot cheaper than plastic tanks that the user/installer has to fill?

Incidentally does anyone know if anyone still half fills tractor tyres with water for ballast? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Yes I would say the concrete option is cheaper plus you are not relying on anyone to fill the tanks. Can you imagine the amount of claims people would put in for damage to their kitchens. If I were skeptical I would say they would do the damage on purpose just to get a free holiday but surely people don't fiddle insurance claims do they?

people still do add water to tractor tyres, mainly fronts to add more balance weight, when youve bought a heavy new plough thats too big for the tractor.

pia though to get out when you want the tractor lighter . I once got a drenching walking past a ballasted tractor when it decided to have a blow out At work

my old man was in the Army. He had an Hillam Imp (rear engine) and used to place a Tank Track Link in the front bonnet to balance it in winter.

My Bmw 3 series had a lowered spot at each side of the boot, just the right size for a traditional 4 stone weight.

It was still crap in snow but I was young and found it amusing. I once span it on the A19 (Thormanby) and some how reversed perfectly into someones drive, not a scratch

good job because it was the bad old days and Id had a few shandies
