HDC message on dash and car wont start.

Big Cry Big Cry Hi. I had a bulb failure on my caravan so replaced this and noticed that the plug that goes to tow bar electrics had a broken pin so replaced this. I then plugged the cable in to the car to check all was well.
Everything seem fine so I removed the plug not realising that the car ignition was still on. As I removed the plug I heard a sound coming from the boot of the car like a fuse overload. I checked the fuses and all seemed fine.
I then went to start the car but it would not start, instead it sounded as if it wanted to start but the battery was flat, I also had a DSC warning on the dash. I have checked all fuses under bonnet, in boot and in car under passenger side dash and all seem fine.
My neighbour offered to jump start the car so we connected up but still my car would not start. I had lots of lights flashing on the dashboard and now nothing and I cant remove the key.
Any ideas as to what is wrong here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After spending hours trawling through the great information on this forum, I'm going to say a Hard Reset, from the sound of it you have nothing to loose and all to gain if nothing is happening to start the vehicle ... REME .. Rough Engineering Made Easy

You have got to try a hard reset first IMHO. Then become very religious and pray you have not cooked the computer. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Oh dear, that sounds daunting! How do I go about doing that or is it a garage job.

Just some ideas.
I don't know anything about the towbar electrics but since you played around with the trailer socket/plug I think I might start by trying to isolate the towbar electrics by taking out any fuse involved in that circuit for a start. Perhaps the engine is being told something like "the caravan is out of control - reduce power" hence the DSC light?

Have you measured the battery voltage? If this is too low then it's difficult to get the key out. see

If the hard reset doesn't work then I might also put an ammeter in series with the battery to measure quiescent current which should be just a few milliamps after a few minutes unless something is taking a lot of power somewhere. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I did ponder about adding Dorsets view myself and its good advice to isolate the item that started all of this. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Hard reset then cross your fingers. Good luck.

Could anything like this happen if you unplugged any interior chargers with ignition on ? phone charger, ipod etc? If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.
