FM strereo gives better sound quality than DAB, mainly due to the poor bit rates used by DAB stations. the only advantage is more choice. A bit like SKY though choice isn't all its cracked up to be, still trying to catch up on my SKY+ viewing from my summer holiday, I have three pages of recorded programs all of which are terrestrial channels |

Gawd I hope for your sakes not. DAB in Belgica is rubbish - there's damn all on it and in fact many shops don't sell DAB here - it simply hasn't taken off. And PLEASE don't get rid of MW ...... poor folks like me who live in the Third world need MW to keep us in touch with civilisation . My morning's wouldn't be complete without the BBC World service to liven up my commute !! |

That's not my experience at all, perhaps it's the channels I listen to but the sound quality is far better than the FM equivilent The DAB upgrade is well worth it imho |

Just had an upgrade and has made a massive improvement. There are obvious limitations with the standard GS head unit but the wife is now well happy playing her thumpy music

FM in a moving vehicle will suffer from interference due to a number of factors, but especially reflections off buildings, hills and other vehicles. This produces distortion of the sound, fading etc.,. DAB thrives on multipath (up to a point, when it falls over completely) and thus it can appear to be clearer in a moving vehicle, than VHF. Listen to both side by side in a good listening environment on hi-fi tuners and audio sytsems using external aerials and FM will win hands down, although BBC Radio 3 DAB will still be pretty good on most material. The FM networks were designed around external aerials at 10m above ground connected to fixed receivers. DAB was designed for mobile and portable radio reception. |
