Did LR change much to do with the workings of the vehicle on the MY13 onwards then or is it essentially the same as the previous years? I see the interiors are different.

Are the MY13 onwards regarded as more reliable?

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Firenze Red

I had pre and later and feel the MY13 on is quite a different vehicle as for being better or more reliable I will let others say how they feel as I am content enough to not move on when I could have. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

One obvious difference is the satnav screen. On earlier vehicles if you don't have a satnav you can fit a TomTom in the gap. Later ones don't have the gap, so you can't retrofit in the same way if it's not fitted as standard. Having had both (07 T4manual and 13 SD4 HSE) the latter was a very much nicer car. I agree that things can start to wear out at 10 years old - LR won't issue an extended warranty beyond 10 years.
Another thing to watch out for is the major service including cambelt, which is expensive and occurs (from memory, check this) at around 10 years or 110000 miles. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Agree many of the GS have lots of what were extras or on higher models from earlier years.
Quite common are fog lights, headlamp wash, heated front screen, heated leather seats, arm rests, much nicer dash (imo) and projector with the led sidelight thing, I know some think too flashy but I like them.
No satnav but depends how often you need one?
No colour coded handles and stuff.
No nice HSE badge
Radio more than good enough for me but not like the HSE for power
Other bits the GS lacks from the HSE? Not sure my list is just from very poor memory
