Advice on which freelander 2

Hi. There is probably a thread on this already but I need some advice on buying a fl2. If there is anything on here already please point me in the right direction.

I have test driven a number of different vehicles and have found that the hse spec is probably my preferred spec.

I have a budget of 11000 but have seen that the specs don't really change much from 2007-2012.

What advantages would there be from buying a 2010 hse with 95000 as opposed to a 2007 hse with the same mileage.

I do like the sd4 engine but is this really worth spending the extra on?

Any help would be much appreciated

Mileage is one consideration, but so is age when it comes to things like hoses that are perishable and metal parts that rust. A newer car with the same mileage as an older will still likely be a better bet.

As for the TD4 v SD4 question. The TD4 is a capable engine with enough power to move the car at a reasonable pace, the SD4 just has a little more oomph and coupled with an auto box just makes the FL2 drive in a more luxurious manner.

Ive had three (2x TD4 and 1x SD4) - and the SD4 auto is the nicest to drive by a long way IMO. Jules

Thanks for the replies guys.

Jules what year td4 did you have?

I know the sd4 is nicer to drive from the ones I have test driven but do you think it would be worth spending £4500 more on a 10 plate sd4 hse than an 07 hse td4 with the same mileage?

I've heard that there were a few teething problems before the 10 plate.

Obviously each vehicle is different when it comes to problems but best to give yourself the best chance at avoiding these by using people's experiences and knowledge.

To be honest my 2007 HSE doesn't seem to get as many problems as the newer ones and no DPF to worry about.

If this comes with a full 2 year land rover approved warranty its worth a look and argue over screen price.

They were 07 and 61 reg - both ex-demo. Both ran flawlessly - each had 35-45K miles on the clock IIRC when we sold them on. Jules

I think I'm going to stretch my budget and aim for a 10 plate sd4 hse. There are a couple around with less than 90000 on the clock.

Anything to look out for in particular apart from the rear diff noise? Are there any modifications that should have been carried out like there were in the early versions of the fl2?

At the end of the day its your money but a MY13 onwards GS say at many less miles has leather and upgraded features brought in to launch the Ewok, goes just as fast and caries the same load . More gizmos in MHO = more problems. in my World I pay cash and prefer to sleep at night ! FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
