Hello there,

I'd be grateful of any tips or hints on some issues we are having with our Freelander 2 2.2TD4 HSE Auto.

1) The Gearbox indicator lights have stopped working, no lights on at all by the gearstick.

2) The Manual / Sport does not enable, you can move the gear leaver to the left but the dash display does not alter and remains on D

3) The key on occasion does not come our from the ignition slot, this appears to be more prominent when the car is parked on an incline with the front elevated. When starting and reversing onto the slight incline the key is able to be pulled out.

We had this same issue about six month ago but it seemed to reset itself as the lights and Manual / Sport selection started to work again but it has re appeared and now has been like this for a couple of days. Is there a gearbox ecu or something that can be reset / re booted ?

The gears all appear to change fine in the Auto mode, no apparent juddering, noise or slipping etc and selection between D, P, R and N all work fine, with the exception of the indicator lights.

Any ideas or pointers would be gratefully received.

Check out the extra earth cable fitment and hard reset procedures on here using search (disconnect battery and hold leads together). FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes I would give that a go the extra earth is so easy to do and cures lots of gremlins.
