Your car remembers you

Three months ago I replaced my Freelander with another one (well, what else could I do?) and noticed that the audio system had 10 CDs worth of music stored in it from the previous owner. That was bad enough but I also had his phone book from his iphone. This got me thinking about how often I have found this on loan cars. I did a bit of research and it seems that it's quite difficult to remove this info from the car's memory (deleting the phone entry only removes the index) and that as cars become more and more connected then resetting a car's memory when you sell it will become much more important. I even read of a case of a guy who located his old car with his iphone and still had the ability to unlock and start it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Your car knows where it is, and it has a sim card (well the ewok does) that is accessible by LR.
I rang LR services from the car, without my phone being present - nice to know it works!

Anyway my point is LR are able to communicate with the car without your knowledge, the car knows where it is, and how fast it is going. So in theory LR can tell if you are speeding (or going the wrong way down a street, or if you have stayed too long on yellow lines - you get the idea), how long before the Police demand this information and can prosecute based on the information the car has given them.

More computer generated convictions with less numbers of police - a statisticians/politicians dream

Then again they could just sell the information about where you shop/work/live to info hungry advertisers Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Not in outback Australia, no mobile access in most areas. Even south of Sydney on the south coast in some tourist areas, no mobile reception! So our cars will be vanishing into the ether & reappearing elsewhere! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
