I have just ordered an EGR blanking plate, the one without the hole in it. I have done loads of research and have read a number of postings that say some models need a hole in them to avoid fault codes appearing whilst others say they are fine on earlier Freelander 2s. Mine is a 2008 and I think that it should be ok without the hole. We will see!!!

I've just fitted a blanking plate with no hole to my 09 plate and it runs better , smoother pickup and pulling better in gear as well as better mpg. Best £4 you'll ever spend .

Cheers Trav. My blanking plate has just arrived so providing it is dry tomorrow I will have a go at fitting it Do you know what year they started fitting DPFs?

Not entirely sure but going by what others on here have said it was after 09. Easy way to confirm is have a look under it you will know by looking at the cat. If there are sensors all over the shop that's dpf.

If yours is dpf you can easy just drill a hole in the plate you have bought already.

EGR plate fitted . It took me about 45 mins as I had to try to work out how to get the wretched engine cover off! In the end I gave up and propped it up to allow enough access!! I had to completely remove the pipe securing nuts and pull it away a bit in order to get the plate into place. Went for a quick run out but traffic was heavy so not sure if it feels any different yet. I think it did feel 'lighter' when pulling away but it may be in the mind! I fitted it to increase mpg and help increase the life of the engine rather than to make it faster so I will see if things improve.

Still awaiting to hear of anyone fitting a blanking plate to a MY13 onwards car and the result ? FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
