You'll need to remove each rear wheel, then the little rubber grommet on the hub, rotate the hub so you can view the handbrake adjuster wheel, then using a flat bladed screwdriver turn up the notches until the handbrake shoes lock on, then turn it back a notch or two.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll be having to get myself a couple of axle stands soon then 👍🏻 |

I got my first FL2 in 2012, handbrake was always poor. The indy I use stripped it down and cleaned it. It was very good after that. The garage charged me half an hours labour. Yesterday I had the MOT for my second FL2, the car just needed rear pads. The car passed with no other issues. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Mine passed last Wednesday with no advisories. Tester remarked on what a clean car it was underneath and said it was a pleasure to drive. And there was me worrying about it failing too........ Mind you, I'm always like it at MOT time, regardless. |

When I first got mine the handbrake was useless, and no amount of adjusting would improve it. I took the rear discs off, and found that the drum part where the handbrake shoes fit was thick with rust. No amount of wire-brushing would clear it, so in the end I had to buy new discs (plus handbrake shoes and pads) and that fixed it. |

When my daughter was a student and had her first car she told me that the night before the MOT she woke up in a panic having dreamt that this was the first exam that she hadn't done any revision for. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I lifted the rear coin tray out yesterday and tightened up the bolt for the cable. It comes on with 2 clicks now and seems fine. It was really loose so I'm not surprised it was riding to the top and doing nothing. Will put it in the garage this week and fingers crossed it'll go through on, there's nothing I can tell it could fail for. I've had many cars and on all of them I've "known" it would fail, I'm confident with the freely though. I'll keep you all updated 👍🏻 |

Well I got the car MOT'd today, and it failed. Handbrake which I kind of expected (must get myself some axle stands at some point), track rod ends allowing dirt ingress, indicator bulbs not the correct colour and excessive play in ball joint.

So when did the electronic handbrake come in ? as I have been told they are pricey to fix. If it wasn't so bad it'd be funny.

http://www.landroveraddict.com/land-rover-...ark-brakes IMPROVED EPB SYSTEM The electronic park brake system on Discovery 3 and Range Rover Sport models continued into the Discovery 4. A different and superior EPB is used on later models including the current Range Rover and Sport, Evoque, later Freelander 2 and Discovery Sport. On these models the brake module is a smaller item safely housed inside the vehicle behind the rear loadspace trim, rather than underneath. The biggest design change is the absence of the cable-operated drum brake arrangement. Instead, the new system employs the rear disc brakes for parking, applying the disc brakes via an actuator mounted directly onto each brake caliper. The actuators contain an electric motor, which moves a spindle against the caliper piston to apply the disc brake. The module controls the actuators, adjusting the force of application according to the gradient of the surface the vehicle is parked on. The park brake system is automatically applied when the ignition is switched off or if auto transmission park is selected. It will automatically release when driving away, and does so in a controlled manner, according to the gradient and the drivers use of the accelerator and transmission. After heavy braking during driving, the brake discs can become hot and will contract as they cool when parked. So to maintain the optimum park brake force, the park brake automatically resets while parked. The new systems components are simpler and (for the sake of emissions) lighter in weight than the earlier Discovery 3 and 4, and Sport 1 version. It is efficient and very reliable.
