Freelander on a Ferry.

Does anyone know if there is a " Ferry Mode " on the alarm system. We'll be taking the Freelander over to Ireland from Holyhead and I'd appreciate real life info on how to lock the car for Ferry Transport . Thanks in advance. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

i always just used to double lock previous cars as normal,

on some occasions I was allowed down to the vehicle decks (on Hull - Zeebrugge route) and there were always a few alarms going off due to motion sensing.

Done the Norn Irish and southern Irish Sea ferries plenty of times with my 07 GS in lots of lumpy seas. Always locked and alarmed as normal - my alarm has never squeaked whilst many other cars have been alarming all the crossing. Don't know if the alarm sensors are different on the later Freelies but I have not heard one alarming on deck in conditions when Beamers and Audis were woo wooing....

Because there will be 2 or 3 grands worth of rods and reels in the boot and about another 1500 quids worth of waders etc. Laughing

my company Audi was great there was a little button on the door under the lock that you just pushed to disable motion sensors. Perhaps I'm paranoid because of the number of bike I've seen shoved off the Douglas ferry when their alarms have been ringing from Heysham

Thanks for all the advice guys I'll be single locking the car as per LR NUT Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The FL2, I believe, does not have the kind of motion sensing which would cause issues on a ferry, only perimeter sensing and internal ultrasound sensing. So just double-lock as normal and you should be fine.

That's to do with the ultrasound sensing though - i.e. if loose items are rolling around in the vehicle it could trigger the ultrasound. There's no tilt-type sensing, so just evaluate whether you have loose items and set accordingly.

Disagree Pab. I rolled my car forward and jacked it up both times it's been double locked and the alarms gone off. Read the full alarm section in the handbook guide I uploaded. MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

in both instances the manual says the alarm goes off if the battery is disconnected ? ! Rolling with laughter

I assume it means if someone is trying to steal the battery without opening the bonnet ? that is quite some trick, Mr. Green

If not, what powers the alarm if the battery is disconnected ? Shocked

Sorry Bob, these days modern USA made 5 ply Gortex stocking foot chest waders and separate carbide studded ankle boots are the way to go, Thumbs Up I'm no expert on these matters but I'd imagine that their design would not allow for romantic interludes with wool bearing ruminant quadrupedal mammals Whistle 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
