Meridian DVB-T Installation - COMPLETED

Have activated DVB-T in my CCF and option is now displayed on touch screen...

DTV 1 & DTV 2 will acknowledge selection but doesn't go to "preview screen" and options as the module is not on the MOST network.

There is actually 2 types of TV modules available, DVB-T & DVB-T analogue hybrid. Both will work, both configurable in the CCF and hybrid version will give you an "analogue TV" option on your touch screen but here is Australia is pointless as analogue TV broadcast has ceased.

Module is in transit so expect it in a couple of weeks.
I'll also be installing the "Meridian" Digital Rear Seat Media system/module as both modules are being installed side by side in the rear cargo area on the passenger side where the Sirius Broadcast module would be for NAS market, obviously not fitted for AU/ROW region vehicles. I will set up a separate topic for the RSE Instalment but both projects will share beginnings. Already have the Meridian Rear Seat Media module but waiting on the module carrier that both modules will be mounted to.

I'll update as parts arrive but will start off with the RJB, as both modules will need to be powered from the "Ring Break Circuit" of the MOST Network. MY15

I hope you don't have to rip the car apart again, but I assume it does need to be buried behind a panel! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Just the rear cargo liner on the passenger side, it's easy. It's amazing what you can do with an electricians snake cable puller. Smile MY15

Today was preparing the RJB for separate fused power supply to RSE & DVB-t modules.
PLAN A.....
Was to replace the electric memory seat relay with a complete rear fuse holder but after looking at the relay spades realised that they were different to the new block mount, so I shelved that idea.

PLAN B.....
Was to use existing fuse/relay holders and find a space for the DVB-t module fuse as I'd already found spare spots for both the CAV and RSE previously......luckily there was one left.
Those who are uncomfortable with electrics/CAN or MOST look away now!

Spliced into MOST Ring Break Circuit main supply, being careful to make sure I spliced in after the circuit breaker and soldered on two feeds, 1 for RSE module and the other for the DVB-T module (yellow/red). Upgraded both supplies to above factory standards, not for any other reason other than I had the pigtails available in a heavier gauge and the same for the ECU supplies after the fuse again because I had that option available to me with my spare pigtails.

Then reassemble with extra fused supplies ready for ECU's. Curled up WH/BU wire is RSE supply wire stored away until I connect.

I was also able to update the fuse overlay diagram with correct positions and fuse values for CAV FD9, Rear Media FD4 & DVB-T FB7

Now just have to wait for parts to arrive. MY15

Agree with the Kraaaaaap on "Free to air" but its more for the rear media system, so it's available from the rear screens.
I'm cautiously confident with the wiring side of things, a lot of time has gone into familiarizing myself with schematics and there's always a "check twice cut once" approach. MY15

Check 9 times. Ruler: from left to right, from right to left. Each twice. Then re-check using a different measuring devise and repeat. Finally, touch wood (one's head)! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Digital TV receiver module arrived today and happy to see that the RSE & DVB-T modules are identical in size which makes my job of mounting them easy as the plan is to piggyback the RSE module on top of the DVB-t module. This is similar to the other side of the vehicle with the Audio & DAB modules.

One of the reasons for choosing this particular module is that it came with the LR chassis mount which allows it to be mounted directly to the Freelander 2 chassis mount bracket and then the RSE module on top with minimum amount of custom mounting to do. Also because the DVB-t has a fan the mount is already designed to hold the module just far away enough for the fan to maintain good airflow.

Not a lot to add here currently as most has been covered in the Rear Media Topic. Module stack is ready to be mounted, just waiting for the chassis mount.
The DVB-t is quiet simple with really only a power, ground and MOST. When Rear Media module is present then most of the connections are between the two modules ie LVDS and CVBT.
The main bulk of this installation will the aerials and how we tackle this, more on this later but as there is a vacant array with the rear screen, 3 points to be exact and a spare aerial on the passenger rear screen (Telestart remote) I'm hoping to utilize these as all or some of the areal points. MY15

I would have thought that the aerials are tuned to the frequency going through them. IE i suspect the 'Telestart' aerial wont give you very good DVB-T reception. Might need some tinkering with or buying an after market magnetic roof aerial to live under the head liner which I've done before.

Yeah the antennas are a bit of a question mark.

Experience with the DAB so far, using aftermarket antennas, existing antennas on the glass, and so on, has been a bit hit & miss.

Taking the Discovery 4 as an example, the TV antennas are on the side windows, and they are four identical ones.

Here is one of the side windows in the D4

The TV antennas are the ones on the left and right, it's the same on the other side.

But in the Jag XF, there are no side windows, and the TV antennas are on the rear window, same as the XJ.

So the plan for now is to use XF antenna amplifiers on the existing unused antennas in the FL2 tailgate glass, if that doesn't work out well then plan B, or C... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
