I have just had the rear diff reconditioned, done haldex oil and filter, diff nice and quiet now plus no more graunching noise from the rear when accelerating hard out of a junction.
I replaced the cambelt inc water pump and pulleys while waiting for the diff to come back.
so will have to wait till I have sold my bmw 530d touring before I buy some tyres.

doing more research Black circles search says the tyres should be 235/65/70 104V
The ones on the car are 235/65/17 108V XL

I thinking is than if the tyre can take extra load it must be of a thicker construction therefore a harder ride.
Ever been in a car with Run flats??
I maybe nip picking but when the time comes I will be fitting 104V's

Don't rule out Crossclimate 235/65 R17 108W if its the right price fitted. Mine are settling in nicely now. Wranglers are original spec, usually cheaper and not a bad tyre. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Just put 4 Wranglers on mine. They never missed a beat in the snow of 2010.

I finally fitted 4 Avon ZX7 235/65/17. 104v.
and the car is transformed.
turns in great, grip great "wet and dry"
and a slightly smoother ride than the 108h extra loads.
Not sure if the increased smoothness is because they are the 104v's as the old tyres were 108h's and a mix of micky mouse ching chang wong's of 3 different make.
Had the car 4.5 months now and am loving it.

NOTE the Avon's are not M@S and by the look of them they would not be any good on mud and snow. but as a road tyre they are nice and quiet.
As for wear I'll have to wait and see.

I've too have had the Avon ZX7s fitted. First impressions......feels a smoother ride and quieter compared to the factory fitted Continental UHPs which I didn't like in the wet at speed. Had to many aquaplaning moments at only 50 or 60 mph. MY13 HSE LUX Aintree Green

Also a vote for the Avon's, all 4 replaced recently, although I went for the 108 spec, good in all road conditions, about £90 per wheel fitted at Halfrauds, they even repaired a puncture for free 2 weeks after purchase !

well on the subject of tyres, I got my 07 Free lander HSE (18") in Dec and it came with 4 fairly new tyres and I have NEVER heard of the make, to me a tyre is just a tyre so no idea if they are good or not Riken 4x4 . . . . . anyone tried those ? Made by Michelin I believe

Goodyears Efficientgrip SUV are very comfortable. I used to inflate these 0.1 more than required and still too soft ride.

On the other hand with soft tires you have worse handling, noticable cornering etc MY2011 TD4 S Manual
