I travel through the road works on the M74 a couple of times a week , it's about 4 miles long with average speed cameras @50mph . The number of people that pass me when my speedo says I'm doing 50mph is unbelievable, a few even fly past. I can honestly say I'm pretty much the slowest guy going through the road works.

that's what I always do when it the specs time/distance/speed cameras..... hit the cruise and sit there until im out past the last camera. but your right... its incredible the number of muppets who speed through those sections, and some even still slam the brakes on when they see the camera then speed up again past it. |

I find cruse control at 40 km/h (25 mph) in Sydney useful to prevent a government revenue fine. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

In theory average speed cameras do not read instant speed or report instant speed they log your plate and time, the overhead gantry cameras attached to the regulating speed limit do, depending on hold ups you can happily do 80mph in an average speed zone so long as it's not for long and there are no instant speed cameras.

agreed.. in theory you could drive for 90% of an average speed camera A to camera B zone at double the speed limit,

Given that my speedo is about 2mph out, I set the cruise control at 52 on those motorway sections. Interesting to see what speed the trucks do, as they have very accurate speedos/tachographs and also the drivers don't want the points.

I was given to understand that the average cameras work on one lane only thus by switching lanes (assuming 2 or 3 lane controlled area) you can avoid a ticket - is this an old wives tale or fact. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

I believe that is an old wives tale, your number and time is recorded on any camera and the software stores it, if the time difference between the recordings indicates a speed above which they will prosecute you have a lower bank balance

I may be wrong? I thought the speed cameras at A and B will recognize your car and the times taken at both locations are noted. The distance between the 2 cameras is known so your average speed can be calculated based on these factors regardless of your actual speeds in between these 2 cameras. |

When variable limits/smart motorways started on the M62 near where I live the local paper reported that when the overhead speed limits changed there was a 40 second delay before the cameras kicked in and fines issued.
