Revs keep dropping

Hi,
Over the last few weeks my fl2 has developed an odd fault. On tick over the revs are fine until I use anything with a significant draw on the system like the program button for the screens or heated seats. As soon as I turn them on the engine revs start to drop every few seconds to the point where the engine almost stalls. It also does it when you turn stuff off aswell. Just wondered if anyone else had any issues? It's a my13.

Try a battery conditioner first. The longer you leave it there is more chance of blowing the alternator if it is the battery needing a good boost or replacement. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

isnt the idle speed controlled by the ecu so it should be stable under varying power steering & electrical loads? 1978 Laverda Jota. Stolen...

Yeah I'll take it to get them checked. Battery was only replaced in Feb so shouldn't be that. I've checked them with a multi meter and the readings seem pretty normal. It's very random also as to when it does it. Not all the time. It's mainly when it's cold.

Batteries often get left on shelves until they are sold. If it has been sitting around long enough it will never be fully charged. Leave the battery on an overnight charge check alternator output and all battery earth and live cable terminals.

Cheers I'm away this week so I'll pop it on charge when I get back. What sort of reading on the multi meter would I be looking for when the engines running?

Most batteries have a date of manufacture stamped on them. Check that it really is new. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Voltage isn't really the best of indications when testing battery condition as surface change can throw you off. Use a battery tester they can be picked up for a few quid. It will give you the reading in amps.

You need to measure the capacity of the battery, in terms of the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps). Most battery suppliers will do this free of charge and give you a printout. Modern charging systems use alternators which are are controlled by the ECU and can instantly vary the alternator output to respond to fluctuations in demand from air-con, heated seats, windscreen etc. You shouldn't see a change in idle speed when the alternator load changes.
