Thanks, that looks really helpful.

Did the bulb just slot into the adapter and then you slid the assembly into the reflector.

Or are they the sort of adapters where you have to split the heat sink / fan assembly from the bulb and grip the adapter between the two. AFAIK the sort with the braided heat sinks don't separate as copper strip goes right up to the led chip.

Sorry for asking questions, I can see why Mondeo fittings would work as Ford owned JLR when the design was done.

On Amazon I can see both the plastic version per your gallery photo, and an aluminium version.

Aluminium FULL Modern Car Bulb H7 HID Xenon Holders Adapters Socket Mondeo 2PCS https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01MA5X0BW/ref...czbGYZWPBB

These Amazon ones are quite expensive, plenty at half price on flea bay. More investigation needed I think.

Hi Bulb slots in as standard one .

Adaptor slides in, two like prongs hold bulb in place.

Cooling fins stay in place as there is room inside headlamp.

I used plastic adaptors from Ebay.

Hope this helps...

Can someone remind me of the benefit of fitting LED lights that are about three times the price of your existing bulbs and take about the same amount of power? And don't forget to take a spare if you travel abroad. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

In my mind there is no advantage. I fitted some ....... and took them out ! The light beam was very poor.

I went the LR route and fitted the 2013 headlamps.

Some say you need a 'link' cable, £250 off eBay, to interface the vehicle to the LED lamps ..... NO !
I used the old lamp wiring and rewired the new lamps ......

........ stay down the route that LR have done the research on ....... and this time they got it right Laughing

There was a big article in classic car weekly last year about swapping OEM bulbs for LED's.

Basically it said the following quoting a VOSA spokes person.

"Anyone who is using LED light bulbs on the exterior of their car is breaking the law. They are only permissible if they are in a complete lamp cluster that was designed for there use and is E marked."

They also said, at the time, there were no LED's direct replacements for bulbs that carried the E mark.

And explained that HID conversions are only legal when the entire light unit is replaced/substituted, just changing the light source is not legal for road use.

It also stated in the report that the penalties for using them on UK roads if caught range from a fine to impounding the vehicle Big Cry

That said you can still buy them in Halfords etc and there is an ebay avert on TV promoting them Rolling Eyes 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep
2013 SD4 HSE The posh one for towing the caravan
1973 Triumph Stag I bought in 2009 and restored.

You can get E marked led bulbs now.

The development is going very fast, for example the old argument about alignment of the incandescent filament and that leds could not match that was very valid.

Today?
