I replaced the head unit ie the front panel on my GS model as the screen was cracked. No code was required. What I discovered is that the front panel is just that, and that the actual radio unit is a separate box behind it within the dash. So has this been replaced too?

The Head Unit, the bit that's hidden behind the dash (IAM) if you have the exact same module, please check the numbers on the unit should be this format XXYY-YYXYYY-XX, where X = A-Y and Y = 0-9. Last 2 "X" not critical but the proceeding should match on both units.

I wanted to upgrade my brother in laws radio/cd player to the six cd version so would have not been like for like so perhaps could not have been retro fitted, landrover said it would have to be a new unit not locked to a vin number. |

I called up our local Landrover dealer who said they need to programme the stereo to the car otherwise it won't work.
