I was around 8 years old and my Dad took me on a jaunt. We were joining a guided walk into the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, with a difference! We first had to jump into a 110 LWB LR, be transported to a remote location, then walk most of the day, to be picked up in said vehicles. All courtesy of the local authority ranger team.

My first Land Rover was a series 2 short wheel base which I took my caravan up to Scotland, took 3 days to get to Kinloss to the RAF base where my sister and brother in law were based. I wish had some ear defenders on due to the droning noise 50mph was its top speed and water proofs as the seals around the door were useless as every time a large vehicle went by in the rain I got drenched, the wife and kids loved it seeing me dripping. I depends, but can be quite costly. Taking the vehicle I have just purchased, I am providing a sample calculation below. Before looking at the numbers, it is worth doing a few things:
The oldest vehicle you can import into the Kenya is 7 years old The government takes a manufacturers recommended selling price (not the current purchase price), and then applies depreciation to the vehicle
With that in mind, here is the calculation for the vehicle that I just bought:
Shipping to Kenya: £1,250 Tax Calculation
Duty (25% of Customs Value):£1,826 Excise-able Value (Customs Value + Duty): £9,130 Excise Tax (20%; clearly owning a "luxury" car is a sin): £1,826 VAT-able Value (Excise Value + Excise Tax): £10,956 VAT (16%): £1,753 Total Taxes: £5,405 There is also an additional £500-£750 of minor government fees, etc.... and this is no including "facilitation", which on principle I refuse to pay. So, the total cost of this vehicle will be about £22,000. In case anyone is interested, the calculation was done at: https://calculator.co.ke/kra-motor-vehicle-import-duty-calculator 2010 FL2 TD4 HSE Galway Green |

How cool - and welcome to Freel2 as well - looks like we will be newbies together. Based on the advice above, I am looking to sell the 19" wheels, but do not think I am eligible to post given that I am so new, and I do not want to fall foul of the powers that be as this is such an awesome site! 2010 FL2 TD4 HSE Galway Green |
