That was on an Autobahn of course! The SD4 was actually quite scary at an indicated 130 mph - I only tried it out as the road was completely empty (I had just detoured round a major accident/road closure) and I slowed down again once the Germans caught up and started overtaking me... Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I have just fitted the EGR blanking plate on my 2013 Freelander TD4 without any issues, I used the one with the hole pre drilled so I guess that technically it is a restrictor rather than a full blank
No issues whatsoever with fault code readings etc and the engine performs impeccably at all revs.
I can't comment as to the improvement as yet in all honesty but knowing there is far less carbon being fed back through the engine satisfies me.
I will repost as to any difference in both fuel consumption figures and performance if anyone is interested

Can the EGR not just be cleaned regular as on the FL1 TD4 instead of bypassing it ? I and other used to clean them out once a year, also the manifold and MAP sensor, myself I used to clean them or exchange the EGR for a clean one every six months same as my oil.

yes you can clean it to keep it working properly but the idea behind blocking the EGR is to avoid "dirty" air flow to the combustion chamber.
At least in turbo diesel engines the EGR have no benefits to the motor operation

Blanking plate arrived today I must say it is very simple piece of kit, compared to the FL1 EGR blank which is the whole unit,

I finally got round to fitting the EGR blanking plate to the FL 2 I could not really feel any difference to be honest.

Remove engine cover then loosen the EGR pipe bolts/nuts.

1

2

There is also a midway bolts to remove/loosen so you get some working space to fit the plate.
3

nuts loose and removed after which gives you enough room to slip in the plate.
4

5

EGR blank plate fitted re-tighten the nuts and bolts up and refit the engine cover.

I don't think you can blank off the EGR on post 2011 models unless you have the coding removed for it. EGR and DPF deletes seem to be quite popular on most cars with minimal or zero difference to emissions but both need to be physically removed/blanked and edited out of the ECU in some way

from my experiences, I never seen a DTCs or Engine lights caused by an EGR blank( without hole, 100% blank): even on newer model ( MY12/MY13) or also on the 2.2 SD4 Evoque.

I've blanked ( with the cheap steel plate) friends/neighbours late FL2/Evoque EGRs without issues.

All these cars have DPF

I don't think it can be done on the facelift models(MY11 onwards) is that correct? i did have a problem on my MY13 -reduced power mode while towing the caravan to be exchanged in Dorset ! I have 2 years free Landrover Breakdown and they came out very promptly, said "it's the EGR sticking. I asked if it could be blanked off and he said no, it's a really hard job because it was at the back of the engine now not at the front. Local dealer repaired under warranty. Interesting towing back to Devon on reduced power though! Sport/ command shift all the way! Just a bit slow up the hills!

The other end of that pipe is still at the front of the throttle bodies. So what stops us blanking that end of the pipe? that way the gases still blow through the valve and maybe it won't set off the EML. Or am I completely in the wrong place? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Has anyone else successfully blanked off a Euro V spec diesel with a holed EGR blank?
