Plumbing Advice

I've just switched my water cylinder from vented to unvented. I got a registered installer to fit it and all was well for the first week. I am now occasionally getting small bits of solder coming through the hot water tap. It looks shiny and bright so i am assuming it is fresh. Is this normal or something to worry about? No leaks and all looks tidily fitted but the solder has rung alarm bells!

Probably just excess solder working its way through I wouldn't worry.

Blimey that is a very nice installation! We are fortunate in the UK to have clean water piped in. Many thanks for the reassurance about the solder.

Here in WALES if you want filtered water you have to

1. clench teeth together.

2. open lips (while still clenching teeth tight )

3. suck water through teeth (hoping dentist has plugged all gaps )

4. Viola ... filtered water .....

Solder is lead free now so one less thing to worry about Thumbs Up

Should disappear once flushed through - some taps have filters on nozzle so may need cleaning out if flow reduces - same goes for shower heads Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Has your plumber registered the work with the councils building control - look at thread started by Steve d last year

It is registered and the installer had the relevant competent person certificate but thanks for the heads up. I'm coming to the end of a 7 month restoration so spent weeks reading through the various bits of legislation before we started. The days of a "handyman" doing certain jobs is long gone. I can understand that the government wants to weed out the cowboys and ensure work is carried out safely but the flaw in that plan is that the general public needs to be aware that is the case!

Years ago there was a tank on top of the hill & the water was good. Then the water supplier decided to pump the water directly & sell off the land which was worth millions. At the time we had no idea of the change in how water was being supplied. Because the water taste was not as nice anymore we put a filter in. Basically to make a nice cup of tea! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
