England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Well I've picked it up and fiddled with everything, and I have to say I'm delighted. It's a 2008 HSE in Stornoway Grey - at least I think so there's no paint code that I can find. It lived on a farm, and it's in excellent condition for its age, especially when one considers that it hasn't been through the hands of a gang of vehicle valets.

It has 90,000 miles on the clock, just serviced at a local garage that specialises in Land Rovers and has four new Pirelli Scorpion tyres. It drives well, and it has taken me this long to work through the buttons finding out what doesn't work and what's wrong with it. The list of faults is small:

Scratches on the rear bumper cover - most are shallow, a few are into the paint. These were obvious when I looked it over, and I don't see it as a real problem. I may just leave it, I may take it to a nearby body shop. Haven't made my mind up. That panl is displaced by maybe a couple of millimetres so maybe he could sort that at the same time.

The offside rear window only moves a couple of inches at a time. I've tried a reset, I'll try again tomorrow, at any rate it's hardly a real issue.

The spare key is feeble. The previous owner had split the casing with a view to replacing the battery but I suspect gave up when it was apparent that a soldering iron would be required. The fob does start the car, and it recharges as usual, but it doesn't recharge very much,so I'll be having a trip to Maplins tomorrow looking for the right battery.

And that's it. I have yet to travel in such a manner as to check out the cruise control, TRS, HDC etc, so I have no idea if that's all functioning. I can say there are no knocks or rattles, no black smoke, and the vehicle is an joy on the road. I am astonished at the power available when overtaking, and am genuinely very pleased.

I still have no idea if its posh audio system features a DAB radio, I sort of hope not as I'm an FM fan!

Stornaway Grey was the only grey on offer at the time I believe so your right there.
The cruise will operate from about 40mph, and once set can be increased/decreased with the + and - buttons on the steering wheel, if the green light comes on the dash then its more than likely functioning fully.
The TRS can be checked just by flicking the dial through the options, depending on the option HDC will be auto switched on and you get the green car on a slope symbol on the dash, likewise if you switch HDC on manually, the green light will come on the dash. You also get the a picture of the front wheels on the display to show which way they are pointing (think that's on mud/ruts setting)
You may also notice the green light HDC light flashing, and IIRC a warning in the display window, which means HDC will only work in 1st, 2nd and reverse gears. That's normal.
If HDC isn't working the symbol will be orange (again going from memory) and you should get a warning message on the display to say its not available.

HDC is a real revelation when going down hill on slippy surfaces. Switch it on, feet off pedals and control it using the cruise +/- buttons. Scary at first but amazing once you get used to it.

All the gadgets can be checked while static, and if you get green lights and no warning messages then its a pretty safe bet they are all working normally.

have fun playing Very Happy

Thank you RogB, that's useful.

The scratches are subsiding after a bit of polishing - it's looking like effort on my part just might avoid a trip to the body shop. I have had a half-herarted play again with the washer jet, but to no avail.

The left outboard air vent slider (might not have mentioned that one) was present in the little centre console bin, so was its black two pronged companion. I have with immense cunning employed a cable tie and snipe nose pliers to click them back together, an operation whose successful outcome rather surprised me.

The window is still playing up, maybe I'll have another go tomorrow. Do you have to reset all the windows or just the one that's misbehaving?

The biggest surprise so far is just how good the "plastic/rubber trim restoring" products are at rejuvenating and cleaning, I hadn't realised!

Family visiting this week has meant little chance to get stuck in and of course Mothers' Day looms, which means more visiting and faffing about, especially as it coincides with MrsP's birthday.
