Hi

I am looking at purchasing a Witter detachable flange tow bar (not to be confused with a normal detachable) with a view to putting a bolt on a Witter cycle rack on the flange of the tow bar.

I have considered a fixed flange bar but I want to detach the bar when not in use as the cycle rack attachment looks a mess when left on the car.

Has any one used this product and how far does the bar stick out from the back of the car, with a view to hitching up with a caravan.

I use a Witter detachable flanged tow bar and use a Witter cycle rack which just drops into an additional bracket which bolts between the flange and ball when I need it (which is not very often).

If you want I can get some pics in the next few days.

Ive put the same tow bar on all of our 3 FL2s and the cycle rack must be over 20 years old by now (used it first on a Discovery 200TDI) - all well made stuff. Jules

Hope these help.
You can simply lift the bike and rack off as one unit if you need to open the rear door.
I just bungee the bike/s to the rack and the same with a trailer plate with lights

It looks nice and neat with bar detached, just the result I want so I have ordered one along with LR 13 pin plug and play electrics.

I went with the LR P&P electrics - it was cheaper for my current FL2 than the previous model. easy to install. Jules

My car is the latest model with electric handbrake, when you said easy to fit did you fit them yourself.if you did anything to be aware of.

I understand that it is not a hard job so I am going to have a go myself.

My son also has a four post lift at his unit so I will not be crawling about underneath the car.

Its easy to fit. Nothing needs to be removed But you need to prise off the Left rear reflector and drill a hole behind it to allow a 13mm long socket in to tighten the nut behind the bumper - all explained in the instructions and not as bad as it sounds - I used a flat bit.
However I believe someone on the forum managed it without the hole drilling - they must have double jointed fingers!
Its a bit tight around the silencer. I taped some carboard over the silencer to stop the tow bat scratching the paint off.

But mine is quite old but it fits my 64 plate FL2 - Witter may have altered the design since I bought it though.

Hi all

Has anyone out there got a witter detachable bar with a Witter detachable Neck ZQFE2037 as supplied by PF Jones tow bars Manchester.

I think I have the older version that came with the bar a WITTER R41AQF Detachable Flange Neck Tow Bar and it has no bends in it and is straight and as a result the caravan is very very nose down its 175mm lower at the front than the rear.

I have measured the height on the car when solo and its 420mm to the top of the ball, but when I put the van on it drops even more.

I was wondering if any one out there has the later version of the bar a Witter detachable Neck ZQFE2037 and could measure to the top of the ball. I am on 17 inch wheels, I dont want to pay out £140 for the new neck if it makes noor very little difference.
