It seems the chancellor is on the brink of introducing a scheme to scrap diesel cars by offering owners a cash incentive. I have no idea if my 2008 pre DPF Golf would fall into the high polluting category (£71 for 6 months tax) but the scheme will only apply in high polluting cities rather than outlying towns by the looks of it.

So, soon enough my local city Derby will impose fees on diesel drivers going into the city and yet I, like many others, will not fall under the scheme. Our cars will also be worthless on the used market as nobody will want diesel.

The other side of it for those who fall under the scheme, is that residual values on new electric cars such as the Nissan Leaf or VW E-Golf are truly awful!

The little reading I have done on this suggests anything pre Euro4 emissions is going to be targeted. I think the FL2 is Euro4, from memory.
Although I'm not due to change cars for a few years (unless a disaster happens..) I'm already in a quandary. Trying to find something with the ability of an FL2 and the grunt of a diesel BUT petrol or hybrid powered AND at a reasonable price seems impossible.
I'm hoping a PHEV-like Disco Sport will emerge...

Whatever, it seems diesel is doomed here. I'm not convinced by the arguments but it seems the govt have well and truly set their sights and it will only get worse.

I think it varies, mine is a late model and listed as Euro5 on Topix FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

I've just received the French Crit'Air sticker for my 2008 FL2, it came as category 3, euro 4.

The French still offer a diesel scrapage scheme, at least for electric vehicles, 4,000€ for diesels first registered before 01/01/06, in addition to 6,000€ from the government for getting an electric vehicle and an additional 6,500€ if you live in Paris.

I believe the early Non DPF TD4 180 are Euro 4(2006-2010) and the later TD4 150(DPF) and SD4 are euro 5 (l2011MY onwards)

maybe different markets and LHD/RHD had different specs....... who knows.

either way I think your own documentation (V5 or similar) shows if its euro 4 or 5.

euro 6 is the addition of ad-blue I think.
euro 3 is farmer Giles tractor

Euro 6 can be either SCR ( adblue or similar) or LNT , regenerating particle filters . Well I am just about to collect a fully re built 1957 2.0L diesel engine to fit back into my series one. The engine number is all the zero's-16. I wonder what 'Euro' that is?

I will never own a petrol vehicle. If they ban me from driving into cities (which I don't do very often) I'll just spend my money elsewhere. And I can assure you, the state will have to prise the keys to my H reg 200 tdi defender out of my cold dead fingers........

Scrappage scheme my backside. Because of course going out to buy a new vehicle powered by a hairdryer and made from a multitude of man made materials is soooooooo much better for the environment than keeping things

Scrappage schemes are flawed. In general terms the people running 10 year old diesels are not going to be chipping them in for a new car. More likely they will sell it to someone who will  2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

or find a petrol Ewok, the only thing it loses out to the FL2 IMO is rear seat room and boot space.

The underpinnings are all FL2, the engine is the FL2 2.0Si4 the same as for export FL2....... its just FL2 in a pretty frock but available with the choice of 4 diesels (2.2D 150 & 190 (2011 - 2016), 2.0D 150 & 180 (2016 >) and 2.0 petrol (2011 >)

So you have plenty of choice

All these things change with the wind. We can all remember when we were encouraged to buy a diesel because they emit lower CO2. And here we are with the latest ruse because diesels emit particulates just as the latest ones have very efficient DPF fitted. It's all and I'm not changing any time soon. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE
