Went to look at a Kia Sportage - very nice.

Then drove to Williams Land Rover and put a deposit on a 64 plate Evoque, without so much as a test drive in the vehicle we are buying.
No idea what I am going to do at the weekends as it has two years "free" servicing - Gill thinks I am going to decorate Laughing

I wanted a Disco 4, but they were too expensive, and I couldn't sell Gill the idea, with the Evoque supposedly saving £100 a month on fuel, whereas the Disco would have cost even more.

How on earth do you find a grey Evoque in a car park? - I am sooooo going to miss Clementine, Orange Freelanders are very easy to find, pleasant to drive, and reliable, it will be like loosing an old friend - but I can't afford to keep two Land Rovers, and at 185k she is starting to show her age. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Apart from the wheels, which don't suit the car at all, it doesn't look much different from the old XC60. Perhaps a bit of Outback / Honda something-or-other about the rear quarter, but otherwise Volvo's usual conservative styling.

Had high hopes for the new XC60 but I don't like the side profile at all. The long bonnet and cab back design make it look more like a V60 estate than an SUV.

I've sat in the V90 and forward visibility is poor, and I don't think this new XC60 will be much better.

I guess there is a reason many of us can't easily decide on a replacement for our Freelanders, they just suit us so well that anything else falls short of what we already have ...

I think you have hit the nail on the head DennisV, I have been sitting at home looking at my Hyundai Tucson brochures and thinking about the test drive and what a nice car, good to drive, good deal etc but then find myself keep looking online for Freelanders. I even rang up two dealerships today about FL2s that looked interesting but they had just been sold. It appears that good ones don't hang about on the forecourts for long. I winced when you wrote that it looked like a BMW, thinking it a little harsh on it, but that pointlessly long bonnet does scream "BMW" and gives it the odd proportions of a 1 Series! Shocked Whoever decided that stupidly small rear windows are essential to "modern" design also needs stringing up (though it's even worse on the Tucson, that's getting a few column inches here, where it's so bad it's reminiscent of an early 1970's Datsun Cherry Shocked ).

Apart from these two Volvo blunders, it's not actually a bad looking car Thumbs Up

I can relate to that. The dealer had my last FL2 sold long before my new D4 arrived from Solihull. When I traded that D4 in for another after a year, the dealer told me that they left the advert for my "new" used D4 was kept on their site, long after I'd bought it, as it kept attracting interest which they might be able to switch to something else (you might have been on the receiving end of something similar).

It's a bit like trawling the dealers for good, very late, D4's now; you need to be in touch with a selection of dealers and checking their websites daily and be prepared to move instantly! With no direct replacement for either car, supply and demand is horribly skewed Sad

Just thank your luck stars you haven't driven to several dealers to find their advertised cars have long gone - some by a couple of months.
Worse still you ring in advance, when you drive 40 miles to find the car the "Salesman" told you was perfect, actually had more than more than 40k (you had said max 20k), and had 6 gears rather than the 9 you had stipulated, oh and it was £3k more than the top of your budget. Another twist, some LR dealers are selling LR approved vehicles (these have 2 year warranty) alongside non- approved (90 day warranty), with no indication which are which, until you come to negotiating price.

Just get a discovery sport, they are much better than discussed on here. Price wise they are similar to most equivalents spec for spec.
Most moans on the sport forum seemed to have been cured by the time they built my car. Driving position seems a bit low but Im used to RRS which seemed like it was on stilts when I swapped fl2 for it.

ride is nice especially as I shunned the 20 inch wheels and scaled down to 19, no cost option . At work

What a gigantic pain the the Ar5@! Sorry to hear it.

The good, very late, D4's are out there. They just take some tracking down. I know, it took me a few weeks!
