Locking Fuel Filler Cap

Hi all,

Just noticed that my fuel filler won't lock when the doors lock.

I've never thought that the filler was very secure so I've searched for a locking screw on fuel filler cap.

Anyone heard of these people: www.petrolcaps.co.uk/568/land-rover-freela...e-fuel-cap

If I can get a locking filler cap I may leave the filler as it is.

All the best,

Seems like a cost effective way of securing your fuel. Thumbs Up

Repairing the fuel cap door actuator etc would probably cost far more. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Yes a little cheaper I would expect. There are posts on here about changing the motor but I'm not sure if re-coding is involved or is it 'plug and play'? Gone:

I would think this solution would actually be more secure than a working flap lock. The flap does seem incredibly flimsy and I'm sure it would not take a determined scrote much time to lever it open and pinch your fuel. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory

To be honest I was more worried about some lowlife putting something in my tank. Just looking at my fuel cap and it would appear to be a bayonet type and not the screw type as per the link in the original post. Gone:

Just swap out fuel filler flap motor, no need to recode, dtc will clear itself. MY15

Update......

The night after I posted this issue I managed to get out and take a look (first dry opportunity with the weather here). I found fuse 34 blown (This fuse just supplies the filler flap on the MY2013 and not the tailgate lock). So the fuse was changed. I opened the flap and locked the car. The locking pin attached to the actuator popped up. Tried again and the fuse blew. Finally I sprayed some WD40 on the aperture where the locking pin comes up from and changed the fuse again. Allowed the WD to soak for five minutes and tried again. Success it worked OK. The locking pin seamed to operate a little quicker with the WD40 applied. Now this may be tempting fate but today is Saturday and it’s been OK since last Wednesday. Fingers crossed. Might be worth spraying a little lubricant in the area and wiping the dirt out next time you have the WD out as the area around the locking pin and flap hinge was quite dusty on mine.

Just one final comment. If anyone is buying this part in the future, I noticed the price for the filler flap hinge assembly (LR006363 I think) was much dearer on some LR spares websites than from LR themselves. One site quoted over £45 with VAT and shipping which I think is quite a bit more than LR. Worth giving Dan at Duckworths a call If needed.

All the best,
