Yes, that would be an option, but there is no longer a ferry from Norway or Denmark to the UK. Then it would be a looong trip. Having a reconditioned unit shipped over from Bell would be an alternative.

Thats a shame as I travelled to Norway by Ferry many years ago.

Rotterdam to Hull seems the only option then these days for cars without going to France and then on to Dover or nearby. Yes a long way. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I live only 25min away from where the Newcastle ferry used to dock.
Its over 10 years since that ferry route was laid down. There was a route from Denmark to Harwich for many years, but that on was also canceled for a year or two back.

Looking a bit closer to the LR procedure for the low level repair. Seems to me that it is only the first/outer pinion bearing that is replaced during this procedure. I guess the most reasonable would be to replace both pinion bearings while first being in there??? Is there any reason for not? I see may kits only contains this bearing too.

Low level repair is the cheap ( not always cheap) and nasty option that will get you 5000 miles further down the road if you are lucky www.bellengineering.co.uk

We will either send you out a fully recon diff with larger (larger and stronger not the so called "uprated" bearing which is just the same size and if you are lucky a good make) pinion bearing, You then send yours back once it's out (we arrange all couriers). Or if you prefer you can send me your own to rebuild (can't see the advantage of this but happy to do it). We are the only firm offering the larger nose bearing modification, and only use the best quality bearing (Timken or Toyo), no cheap rubbish. www.bellengineering.co.uk

As far as I know, there is a larger pinion bearing fitted to the later diffs, post 2011. Does these suffers the bearing issues as the earlier ones?

Will a RR Evoque rear diff fit my Freelander 2?

I've seen 2014 diffs with a larger bearing, but have seen plenty of 11 and 12 plate cars come in with the small bearing failure. And yes I've also had Evoques in with failed small bearing. www.bellengineering.co.uk

I have been browsing a bit around and it seems to me that the FL2 diff is listed with part no LR031377. For the Evoque the rear diff is listed with part no LR031377 and LR066424.
I am only guessing, but may the later part no be the diff with the uprated bearing? This means that the earlier Evoques has the same diff as the FL2 and are interchangeable. What about the later part no, is this one interchangeable with the earlier one?

It would be great if anyone could confirm/correct this as I have a few used Evoque diff within reach

I got confirmed from a trusty source that the Evoque diff will fit my FL2 and I have now ordered an used unit from a 2014 Evoque with a mileage of 25000 for £200. Crossing fingers that this one has the larger bearing and is in a fit shape. The haldex unit was also included, so this one migth be usefull for someone.

You have ordered the correct diff haven't you?? They completely changed thendriveline when the freelander was stopped. They went to the new rear diff with their own type of haldex on each wheel, so it obvious looking at them externally. The front transfer box was also changed to a non compatible unit, depending on which engine/gearbox was fitted. Trouble with Landrover is you never know what part bin they grabbed stuff from during change over. www.bellengineering.co.uk

Externally it looked identical to the FL2 diff, so crossing my fingers that it will fit

I saw a few later ones, but those looked completely different, so I assume you are correct.

I was watching 5 used Evoque rear diffs on Ebay two days ago, listed between £200-£300. They are all gone now. No need to say that these are hot items!

55,000 on the clock and mine needs doing. Have sourced the parts including heavier duty bearing. The oils needed and Haldex filter and end cap.

Somewhere I have read that there is a software update. What does that do?, and how can I get it, if it's essential. If it's not, can someone who does these repairs let me know.

As far as I know, it is not possible to fit the uprated (larger) bearing without doing modifications to the casing?? I guess someone can give a better answer to this than me....

There is a software update available for those cars that is fitted with gen. 4 Haldex which will reduce the load transfered to the rear under certain conditions. This does not apply to earlier cars with gen. 3 Haldex.
