Another tow bar question!!

Morning all. Been reading through th threads regarding tow bars and electrics and I'm still not 100% on what to go for as some threads sort of contradict others
Basically I am looking to get a detachable tow bad fitted and like the Whitter everyone talks about here. But I'm not sure about the electrics. I need the 13 pin type but as my FL2 is the late 2012 facelift model, do I get the electrics from Land Rover and are they plug and play, or do I go for dedicated electrics from the same place I get the tow bar?
I need to get this sorted this week as I will be using it on the 24fh

Thanks

If its a MY13 model then it's plug and play, you do not need to get LR's electrics as Witter will sell you exactly the same dedicated CANBUS loom for far less.

Hi,

I have a 2013 FL2 fitted with a LR towbar and the LR 13pin electrics. No problem with original caravan but the new Swift Caravan with LED lights required an additional switching unit from Sargent Electrical to be fitted to the caravan to ensure that the indicators worked and showed to be working on the dashboard of the car.

Not sure of the make of your caravan but if it is a Swift then your caravan dealer should have a test rig which can be linked to the car towing socket to check compatibility. If not compatible the can try out different plug in modules to find the correct one. Modules cost about £40 and are simple plug in on the caravan.

Hope this helps

Hi,

That arrangement sound like my earlier Caravan and so I think that you should not have any problems.

I ended up going for a tow trust detachable. Witter quoted me 485.00 fitted. I called a local fitter and it turned out he would have fitted the witter had I ordered it, as he's their local fitter, but in the end he recommended a tow trust fitted for the same price, although his initial quote was 560.00. It's the same as a witter but the coating on the metal is better apparently! I guess he would say that......

Did you have to get anything programmed to de-activate the reversing sensors when tow electrics connected?
