Maybe having the heater blasting out has affected it? |

Youre lucky, only dropping mpg in the last couple of weeks! My mpg (37 - 33) has been getting worse in the last few months. I went into the dealer today and asked the service manager what could be wrong? He said 33mpg is very good? I explained that I was traveling the same route every day at the same speed. He said bring it in and we will check it on the diagnotics. This will take 1.5hrs.

Having a dirty air filter will affect mpg. My mpg started to reduce so I checked the air filter and it was very dirty after only 7 months of driving . In contrast the filter in the XYL's MX5 is over 2 years old and still looks like new.

I will check the air filter although my FL2 is only 5 months old, 5500 miles on the clock.

I'll check the filter this weekend as I've just hit 19000 miles, thanks Dave. |

Like people have said before, the cold affects it a lot, especially if you do shorter journeys. Reason being that the pre-heater kicks in more during the cold and for longer. That thing will EAT fuel at a serious rate of knots. 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue.. |

I'll go with the cold weather scenario.

Checked air filter and it was like new, however fuel consumption has improved in the last few days, now getting 35.3 mpg on the same route. I will see if things get any better before I take it back to the dealers for a check up. |

This may be due to winter fuel spec as the formulation is adjusted to increase resistance to waxing. Petroleum companies only put this in when they need to as it costs a bit more in the additive pacakage.

I was using Millers addative until a couple of weeks ago, It did not seem to make any difference? It's only in the last week to 10 days that my mpg improved after the Millers would have been out of the fuel system. Is it possible the Millers addative could make things worse? Just a thought? |

A number of factors come into play here. Drag on the aerodynamic properties of the vehicle. Cold air is much harder to push out of the way - it does make a big difference. - Changes to fuel use due to the fuel/air mixture changes using denser air.
