United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Firenze Red

If you're hearing a click when trying to start it, it could well be the starter motor causing the problem.
I've replaced two starter motors now on my 60 plate auto, both with the same symptoms.
The first replacement lasted about 35,000 miles I guess.

Easy mistake to make.

When starting hold the button down fully until she is running. Used to stab mine and was corrected by someone on here. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I don't know who corrected you but you were misinformed! A quick press of the button is all that's needed to initiate the start sequence.

From the handbook:

Quote:
Engine start/stop
• For automatic transmission vehicles, with
the gear selector in P (park) or N (neutral)
and the brake pedal depressed firmly,
briefly press and release the START STOP
ENGINE button to start the engine.
• For manual transmission vehicles, fully
depress the clutch pedal and briefly press
and release the START STOP ENGINE
button to start the engine.

That suggests an underlying issue of some sort. Perhaps worth checking for fault codes in case it's something which could turn into a hard fault and prevent starting altogether.

Agreed about developing faults and not leaving things too long usually but this is one that seems to be fine plodding along.

You could spend hours and serious money chasing down an intermittent fault like this so may as well keep on as I am (and other out there) with recovery cover as the fall back option. As for fault codes its one thing having them but another finding a mechanic wise enough to deal it is another matter.

Will see if I can track back the post on this. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Seek and ................

OK found the little devil.

It was a firm push, so mine is pushed and held till it fire up and thread suggests a common fault back then.

Mine is now fixed...was the starter motor.

Try using your other key fob. I have this problem intermittently, but when I use the spare key it starts OK. I suspect the rechargeable battery in the key has died, so I've ordered a replacement and watched a YouTube video on how to replace it!
